With just two weeks remaining in the 2019 CFL regular season, there are several matchups that could determine the final playoff standings out in the West Division. Week 20 kicks off with one of those games on Friday night before we’re treated to a Saturday triple-header.
This #TotalPickEm column is intended to give you some insight into the matchups, but for full breakdowns be sure to visit the main page of CFL.ca for comprehensive resources.
Friday | Calgary at Winnipeg
The Stamps will travel to IG Field to finish up their back-to-back against the Bombers on Friday.
Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea has been tight-lipped as to who his starter will be on Friday. Zach Collaros took first-team reps during the week while Chris Streveler rested.
This will be Winnipeg’s final tuneup before the playoffs get going. They’ll be trying to end their regular season on a high note in front of their home faithful to open Week 20.
Saturday | Hamilton at Montreal
To open up the Saturday triple-header, we get what could possibly be an early preview of Eastern Final.
It’ll be Dane Evans and the league-best Ticats against Vernon Adams Jr. and the up-and-coming Alouettes at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium. The teams have split the season series to date, with the home team coming out on top on each occasion.
Each team still has one game remaining in their respective seasons, however, they’ll be sizing each other up for what could be the fourth showdown in November.
Saturday | Ottawa at Toronto
It’ll be the third and final installment of the Battle of Ontario when the Argos and REDBLACKS meet up at BMO Field on Saturday.
Toronto has taken the first two games of the season series, and two of the Boatmen’s three victories on the year have come against the REDBLACKS.
With both teams set to finish outside the playoffs, players will still be fighting for jobs next year. Games between the two Ontario rivals are also always highly-contested.
Saturday | Saskatchewan at Edmonton
It’ll be a battle between two quarterbacks who were in the news this week.
Esks quarterback Trevor Harris was activated from the six-game injured list on Monday and looks to be Edmonton’s starting pivot on Saturday. On the other sideline, Cody Fajardo was rewarded for his solid play in ’19, signing a two-year extension with the Riders on Monday, keeping him in Riderville through 2021.
The two teams kick off the first half of their season-ending back-to-back on Saturday to conclude the Week 20 slate. They’ll wrap up their respective regular-season campaigns at Mosaic Stadium on Nov. 2.
