Collaros named Bombers’ starter against Stamps
WINNIPEG — Zach Collaros will be the man under centre for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers when they take on the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.
Collaros, 31, has been out since the first drive of the season after he suffered an injury while playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was traded to Toronto and then subsequently flipped to Winnipeg before the league’s trade deadline on Oct. 9.
Starter Chris Streveler had a noticeable limp during the team’s Week 19 game against the Stamps. Through 17 games this season, he’s thrown for 1,564 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 726 rushing yards and an additional 12 majors on 127 carries.
Streveler was forced into the starter’s role after Matt Nichols underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in September. This will be the Bombers’ final tune-up before they play in the postseason, and they look to be taking the chance to rest their starter ahead of the Western Semi-Final. He will not dress for Friday’s game.
Sean McGuire will serve as the backup while Trevor Knight will suit up for his first CFL game as the Bombers’ third-string.
The Bombers will welcome the Stampeders to IG Field on Friday to open up Week 20. The second game in as many weeks between the two teams will kick-off at 8:30 p.m. ET.
