#UniversityBlitz: Short week with Canada West on bye

We’ve reached Week 8 of the U SPORTS football season, and a couple intriguing matchups lay ahead of us.

Thursday night saw a pair of OUA contests go down to the wire, as No. 5 Guelph edged a feisty Queen’s squad 27-24 in OT and No. 10 Waterloo dropped a wild 53-50 decision to regional rival Laurier.

Action continues on Friday afternoon, with Carleton hosting No. 7 McMaster in a rare 1 p.m. Friday kickoff in Ottawa. The annual Red & Blue Bowl between Toronto and York kicks off at 7 p.m. in the GTA, with the former looking to keep its slim playoff hopes alive.

Out east, resurgent Bishop’s could take a major step towards booking its first playoff berth since 2014 if the Gaiters can knock off visiting Saint Mary’s.

Here is what our #UniversityBlitz panel thinks of this week’s key matchups:

With Canada West on a bye, and Laval (at McGill) and Montreal (at Sherbrooke) both poised for comfortable wins, it could be a quiet week on the whole.
