Geoff Robins/CFL.ca
TSN CFL Fantasy presented by LeoVegas is easy to play with just seven roster spots and a $40,000 salary cap.
However, success does require a healthy team, with all seven players in active CFL lineups. With such small rosters, an empty slot can be a devastating blow to your week’s score.
In addition, practice reports can be the source of hidden gems that produce big numbers despite low ownership percentage, providing an edge over the rest of the field.
With that, CFL.ca breaks down some of the critical roster notes for each game.

Hamilton at Winnipeg
Friday | 8:30 p.m. ET
Luke Tasker, WR, HAM
Ticats receiver Luke Tasker ($6,414) remains out of the lineup for Week 16. The veteran slotback hasn’t played since Aug. 17 due to injury, though a return could be on the horizon.
Tyrell Sutton, RB, HAM
Veteran Tyrell Sutton ($5,366) is anticipated to make his Ticats’ debut on Friday night vs. Winnipeg. He’s listed as the backup to national Maleek Irons ($4,500) and is considered a risky Fantasy play.
Maleek Irons, RB, HAM
National running back Maleek Irons ($4,500) is listed as the Ticats’ starter for Friday night’s game. Irons was activated off the six-game injured list, though a crowded backfield could hold him back.
Jackson Bennett, RB, HAM
After starting last week, Jackson Bennett ($3,500) is the Ticats’ third-string running back for Friday’s contest. He could move up the rotation is Tyrell Sutton ($5,366) is a scratch, but at this point the volume just isn’t there for Bennett.
Edmonton at Ottawa
Saturday | 4:00 p.m. ET
Trevor Harris, QB, EDM
Eskimos quarterback Trevor Harris ($10,576) has been placed on the six-game injured list. Harris would have liked to play his former team, surely, but there’s no sense in rushing him back. Logan Kilgore ($5,256) gets the start in the nation’s capital.
Logan Kilgore, QB, EDM
Logan Kilgore ($5,256) will make a second start for the Eskimos when they visit Ottawa this weekend. The Esks have no reason to rush Trevor Harris ($10,576) back into the lineup as he recovers from an upper body injury.
Dominique Davis, QB, OTT
REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell says Dominique Davis ($5,711) will come off the bench Saturday vs. Edmonton. The duo quarterback system is not very friendly for Fantasy users, who are advised to stay away.
Jonathon Jennings, QB, OTT
Jonathon Jennings ($5,197) will get the start vs. the Eskimos on Saturday, but Dominique Davis ($5,711) will also play, Rick Campbell said. Jennings struggled in back-to-back games against his former team the BC Lions and Ottawa’s QB position is one to avoid in Fantasy.
Caleb Holley, WR, OTT
Ottawa receiver Caleb Holley ($3,163) is working towards a return to the lineup this week. Holley has yet to break out with the REDBLACKS, tallying 291 yards in nine games this season.
DeVonte Dedmon, WR, OTT
Returner and receiver DeVonte Dedmon ($3,025) is in danger of missing Saturday’s contest, Rick Campbell said Thursday. The talented rookie has flashed potential, but has struggled with injuries in 2019.
Rafael Araujo-Lopes, WR, OTT
Rick Campbell says Rafael Araujo-Lopes ($2,500) is in the mix to play this weekend for Ottawa. The 23-year-old caught six passes in his only game this season.
Saskatchewan at Toronto
Saturday | 7:00 p.m. ET
McLeod Bethel-Thompson, QB, TOR
After a tough outing vs. Calgary, McLeod Bethel-Thompson ($9,235) has been relegated to backup. Bethel-Thompson played well, for the most part, while James Franklin ($5,831) was injured, but consistency has always been an issue.
James Franklin, QB, TOR
James Franklin ($5,831) will be the Argos’ starter when they take on the Roughriders on Saturday. Franklin won the No. 1 job going into the season but was injured in Week 3. While the price is right, Franklin is considered a risky play against Saskatchewan.
Naaman Roosevelt, WR, SSK
Riders receiver Naaman Roosevelt ($5,537) remains in the Riders’ starting lineup. Jordan Williams-Lambert ($4,653) was anticipated to make his debut, but didn’t make the depth chart for Saturday’s matchup with Toronto.
Jordan Williams-Lambert, WR, SSK
Sophomore receiver Jordan Williams-Lambert ($4,653) will not make his 2019 debut on Saturday. The Riders have a crowded receiving corps and have decided to go with Naaman Roosevelt and Emmanuel Arceneaux this week instead.
Montreal at BC
Saturday | 10:00 p.m. ET
Vernon Adams Jr., QB, MTL
Alouettes starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. ($11,216) has been suspended one game for swinging his helmet at Adam Bighill during a win over the Bombers. Adams will not appeal as Matthew Shiltz ($5,000) will get the start at quarterback.
Jeremiah Johnson, RB, MTL
Backup running back Jeremiah Johnson ($5,723) could return to the Alouettes’ lineup this week. Johnson has been sidelined since Week 13, but probably wouldn’t be a strong Fantasy play as the backup to William Stanback ($7,003).
Matt Shiltz, QB, MTL
With Adams suspended, Matthew Shiltz ($5,000) will get the start for the Montreal Alouettes this week. Shiltz is an appealing Fantasy option given his current salary, opponent and surrounding weapons on the Als’ offence.
