While Week 7 in the Canadian university football ranks is a shorter one, with fewer games on the schedule and the majority played earlier in the week, it still has a number of intriguing matchups.
With Canada West and its surging programs on a bye week the focus shifts firmly to the other three conferences, each of which has a marquee matchup.
In the RSEQ conference, a battle of the No.-2 and No.-4 teams in the nation is set for Sunday (1 p.m.) as Laval (5-0) hosts Montreal (4-1) in a battle of Quebec’s two blue-blood programs.
Ontario has a number of big-time clashes, most notably a Friday afternoon (1 p.m.) tilt between No.-9 Carleton (4-2) and No.-8 Laurier (3-3) in the nation’s capital. Elsewhere, Queen’s and McMaster — both unranked, but listed as honourable mentions in the Top 10 — are playing a rare 11 a.m. contest on Friday in Hamilton.
Out east, St. FX (3-2) visits Acadia (2-2) in a battle which could decide which of the two gets to host a home playoff game in a few weeks’ time.
Also, a brief aside to congratulate Regina Rams QB Noah Picton on setting the all-time Canadian school record for passing yards last weekend. Legendary.
Congratulations to Regina’s Noah Picton (@npicton4) on becoming the all-time Canadian university passing leader last night. 👏 https://t.co/hEJ2mEERDy

Anthony Coombs continues to hold a comfortable lead, but with three picks’ difference between him and second-place J.P. Bolduc, the leaderboard could be shaken up in Week 7 of the university season.
Unsurprising to see Nate Behar and Mike Benson side with their alma maters this week.
