Sights, Sounds and Social: Week 16

Week 16 was a fun one in the CFL, with electrifying plays, Twitter drama and much more going on around the league.

Friday | Toronto at Calgary

The Stampeders rocked Toronto, securing a playoff spot in the process, and moods were jovial following the win.

It wasn’t all fun and games, however, as Calgary lost another receiver to a season-ending injury.

Players from around the league reached out to Begelton, who was in the midst of a breakout season, to offer their support.

Saturday | BC at Hamilton

It began with this.

Which led to this, after Hamilton sent the Lions home with a 40-10 walloping.

Oh my.

Saturday | Winnipeg at Edmonton

There really isn’t much to say about the 30-3 Winnipeg win other than the Bombers were the significantly better team on both sides of the ball.

Here’s a collection of tweets from players and fans who had an absolute ball during the road win over Edmonton.

Decent night all around — especially for coordinator Richie Hall’s defence!

Sunday | Saskatchewan at Montreal

The Riders edged a game Montreal team 34-29, taking a giant leap towards the playoffs and putting an almost insurmountable dent in the Als’ own hopes in the process.

Johnny Manziel’s first career pass touchdown in the CFL was a ridiculous bomb of a trick play, and received plaudits across social.

There was also a minor attack of the birds, as seagulls circled the broadcast booth and were referenced on Twitter.

Ultimately, the Riders were the better team on the day.

Here’s a nice inside-look at the post-game moment between victor and loser — Collaros and Manziel — following the contest.

Oh, and team-leading rookie Jordan Williams-Lambert shouted out two of his position group mates as they both eclipsed the 100-yard mark.
