RotoExperts: CFL Week 13 Fantasy Rankings

Geoff Robins, CFL.ca

All Hail Hamilton! The Week 13 TSN CFL Fantasy football rankings are dominated by the Tiger-Cats as pivot Jeremiah Masoli ($10,145), running back Alex Green ($7,548) and receiver Brandon Banks ($8,587) reign atop their respective positions and will seek to maintain their momentum going into Saturday’s game at Toronto.

Masoli has thrown for 804 yards and four touchdowns in his last two games, including a 385-yard, three-major performance in the 42-28 Labour Day Classic win over the Argonauts. While the passing yardage and threat to deliver production on the ground has been there for most of the season, Masoli’s ability to throw multiple touchdowns — which had been lacking — is now present and makes him a strong play heading into the rematch.

The week will have stiff challenges at quarterback, as Edmonton’s Mike Reilly ($14,000) faces the Calgary defence for a second straight outing. Reilly had a season-low 16 Fantasy points in the Labour Day Classic and could be without ace receiver Derel Walker ($8,537), who was injured on Monday. Stamps pivot Bo Levi Mitchell ($9,513) will be without his favourite receiver as Kamar Jorden ($9,596) will be out for some time after he sustained a lower body injury on Monday.

Those looking for a potential sleeper will have to hope that at least one of the quartets of Ottawa’s Trevor Harris ($9,366), BC’s Travis Lulay ($7,115), Matt Nichols of Winnipeg ($8,133) or Toronto’s McLeod Bethel-Thompson ($6,694) can reverse their recent trends.

Fantasy users will be anticipating that Green will continue his recent trend of finding the end zone. The Ticats’ back scored twice in the Labour Day Classic, giving him seven touchdowns in his first four games since coming off the 6-game injured list. He also has consecutive 100-yard games and has enhanced Hamilton’s offence to where defences now pay dearly for committing their focus on the passing game.

Andrew Harris ($9,157) comes off a 155-yard outing against Saskatchewan, but the Blue Bombers do-all has gone three straight games without a visit to the end zone. Both Ottawa’s William Powell ($8,721) and Toronto’s James Wilder Jr. ($8,729) look to bounce back after disappointing efforts in Week 12; Wilder is simply looking for his first run of better than 20 yards this season as his average yards per carry is nearly three yards less than last year’s stellar 7.1 average.

A potential Week 12 sleeper is BC’s Chris Rainey ($6,682), who has yet to put together a vintage performance. In what shapes up to be a high-scoring affair against the REDBLACKS on Friday night, the stage could be set for him to remind Fantasy users why he’s one of the league’s best all-purpose weapons.

Banks comes into the weekend with four 100-yard games in his last five and will look for his eighth game of triple digit yardage on Saturday. Teammate Luke Tasker ($6,798) has consecutive 100-yard outings and is a strong bet for a third as both will take up the slack with Jalen Saunders ($7,214) out for an extended period with a lower body injury. Edmonton’s D’haquille Williams ($8,158) has scored majors in three straight weeks and enters Saturday’s rematch against the Stampeders bidding for a third straight 100-yard game.

Look for Hamilton’s Mike Jones ($2,500) to be a popular option among Fantasy users as he will be the third option for Masoli in the wake of Saunders’ absence. With Emmanuel Arceneaux out for the rest of the season, BC’s Bryan Burnham ($6,284) will see an increase in both targets and Fantasy users, while DaVaris Daniels ($6,250) and Marken Michel ($5,698) will be targeted frequently by Mitchell.

Defensively, the Roughriders ($6,047) remain the hot hand. Winnipeg’s defence ($5,228) is also a solid play as the two teams will likely keep points at a minimum.
