Manziel returns to practice; splits reps with Pipkin

Montreal Alouettes

MONTREAL — Johnny Manziel has returned to practice and is splitting first-team reps with Antonio Pipkin, according to TSN’s John Lu.

Manziel has not practised since last playing in Week 9, with the team placing him on concussion protocol following a 24-17 loss to the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Aug. 11.

Pipkin, 23, has started the last two games for the Alouettes, throwing for 520 yards and a touchdown while leading Montreal to a 25-22 win over the Argos on Friday night.

After the game Head Coach Mike Sherman was non-committal on who would start moving forward.

The Alouettes acquired Manziel, a former Heisman Trophy-winner with Texas A&M and first round pick of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, in a blockbuster deal that sent Jamaal Westerman, Chris Williams and two first-round draft picks the other way.

The Alouettes are back on the field on Friday night, when they visit the East Division-leading Ottawa REDBLACKS.
