Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup: Riders, Esks clash in Edmonton

Geoff Robins/CFL.ca

EDMONTON — Two West Division foes meet on Thursday night as the Edmonton Eskimos play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Edmonton is coming off a big win over the Montreal Alouettes last week where quarterback Mike Reilly scored five touchdowns. The Riders, on the other hand, are fresh off a 22-34 loss to the Calgary Stampeders.

Reilly leads the league in passing yards with 2,063 while his favourite target Duke Williams sits on top in receiving with 672 yards. It’ll be up to the Roughriders secondary to shut down the Eskimos aerial attack to give their own offence a chance to see the field.

Zach Collaros makes his return this week after being sidelined with injury and was listed as the team’s starting quarterback for the contest. Along with the Riders usual suspects at receiver, Collaros will have Duron Carter back on offence to throw to as cornerback Nick Marshall makes his return from injury. Will Collaros be the spark the Riders need on offence?

Edmonton’s offensive line has only allowed Reilly to get sacked four times this season, the least amount of times in the league. Charleston Hughes will look to add to his league-leading sack total (eight) by getting to the Esks QB this week.

Can Edmonton start to close the gap on Calgary for first in the West or will Saskatchewan improve to above .500? Find out in this week’s Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup.

Pick Trend

The fans are siding with the home team, with 77 per cent of them choosing the Eskimos to walk away victorious.

Don’t count out the visitors, however, as the Riders defence has been stellar this season and have the opportunity to shut down Edmonton’s red-hot offence.
