TORONTO — Will Johnny Manziel make your Fantasy lineup this week?
The wait is over for Manziel’s three-down debut, with the Montreal Alouettes announcing that he will get the start Friday night against Jeremiah Masoli and his former team.
It’s the perfect script for Week 8, but with a salary of $7,000, is the hype worth buying into?
“The risk is extremely low with Johnny Manziel and the upside is there,” said Jeff Krever. “It’s Johnny Manziel. It’s too fun not too. It’s Johnny Football, and that’s exciting.”
Krever, Pat Steinberg and Hannah Nordman weigh in on that and much more in the latest from the CFL Fantasy Podcast:

While Krever says Manziel would be a solid play this week, Pat Steinberg and Hannah Nordman aren’t willing to take the risk quite yet. Both alluded to other options, including Bo Levi Mitchell who comes in at $8,171.
“If he was at $5,000, $6,000 he’d be a lock in my lineup,” Nordman said of Manziel. “But at $7,000 he’s just way too close to Bo Levi Mitchell’s salary. Mitchell is up against a BC team that really hasn’t quite figured it out yet, so in that regard I’m going to have to pass on Johnny Football in his first start.”
For Krever, Vernon Adams’ 19.9 points against the Edmonton Eskimos last weekend could be an indication of what’s to come.
“Bo Levi Mitchell may be the best quarterback in the CFL, but in Fantasy it’s a different story,” he said. “Even Vernon Adams at $5,000 had 19.9 points last week. I think Manziel at $7,000, if he gives you 15 points, that’s not going to kill your week, but with Johnny, the potential is even higher because he’ll be running around making plays and the Alouettes are usually going to be losing.”
“I’ll say this much,” added Steinberg. “Whether you think he’s going to have a lot of success in this league or not, whether you have bought into the guy who has precisely zero throws in meaningful games in this league, it doesn’t matter. He’s a great discussion topic, he has added so much buzz to the 2018 season, so in that respect I tip my hat to Johnny Manziel, regardless of how he plays on the field.”
The podcast crew also discussed the Argos’ quarterback change, the return of Duron Carter and more of this week’s news, bargain buys and locks of the week in the CFL Fantasy Podcast for Week 8.
