CFL Game Time: Montreal Edition!
As you can imagine it was Manziel mania on our trip to Montreal this week! As news of the trade broke on Sunday our CFL Game Time crew was thanking our lucky stars that we were already going to la belle province so we were able to cover the trade…along with preparing for all things Thursday Night Football!
Wednesday morning I was up and on my way to Global TV Montreal for a 6:45am interview. It should be noted that I am a morning person, so an early wakeup doesn’t bother me too much. The city is super peaceful in the morning and I was able to walk to the interview and take in Montreal before the day really began. It POURED rain on Tuesday so I was prepared with my rain jacket (thanks Mark’s!) and umbrella.
Next our team headed to the Big O for Alouettes media availability to grab interviews with the team. We were able to talk 1-1 with Johnny Manziel and I really enjoyed doing the interview. He is poised and nice to chat with. Take a look below:
I also grabbed an interview with one one of the many great guys in the league Henoc Muamba who gave some insights into news of Jaamal Westerman being traded. He confirmed what many of us already knew; that Westerman is a very well liked guy in the locker room and it seems he will be missed by his teammates.
We went back to the hotel to grab interviews with the Edmonton Eskimos who had just arrived in town. I did a 20 Questions with Duke Williams who I had never met before! He is a soft spoken and lovely guy. I also interviewed JC Sherritt who we visited along with Matt Nichols when we shot The Grind in Spokane, it was great to catch up with him in season. Note this room we filmed in – doesn’t it remind you of The Shining?!
On Thursday it was GAME TIME!! I was beyond thrilled that Davis and his wife Veronica brought along their sweet daughter Avery to Montreal. Yes, she stole the show and we loved seeing her sport the (adorable) Lil Chez jersey from that our crew gifted Davis and Veronica as a baby gift (thanks for organizing JR!) I think it suits her perfectly!
We were also thrilled to be joined by our bud and CFL.ca Senior Writer Chris O’Leary who has done an expert job covering the Manziel trade – and everything leading up to it. Chris gave us some unique insights into the trade (you can hear them on the episode) and had a little fun sporting the jersey of the guy who made the #2 jersey in Montreal a thing – Mr Davis Sanchez.
Although yes…they did sell out of #2 Manziel jerseys in this Alouettes store I visited in the stadium…and also all the t-shirts…by the third quarter.
Our team loved being in Montreal this week! Next week there are TWO Thursday Night Football games and CFL Game Time will be set up at the game in TORONTO! Please stop by and say hello – we can’t wait to see you all there.
