#TotalPickEm: Week 6 Recap

Western road teams were the order of the day in Week 6 #TotalPickEm play, as the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers each earned wins on the road out east.

Our Toronto underdog pick never came close to fruition; the Argos went down 15-0 in the first quarter, and never looked capable of mounting a comeback. So, apologies for that and perhaps Winnipeg deserves a bit more respect.

There is a new leader atop the global leaderboar; ron4158‘s 3-1 week propelled him into pole position, while previous leader oilslick — with a 1-3 week, including a wild Montreal underdog pick — dropped down to fourth place.

A reminder that #TotalPickEm now features a weekly prize — two tickets to any 2018 CFL regular-season game — in addition to the end-of-season grand prize of $5,000.

Thursday | Saskatchewan 31, Hamilton 20

We, along with most pundits, suggested that Hamilton’s offence could not be shut down in back-to-back games.

We were wrong.

For the second game in a row, Chris Jones’s defence held firm and stifled Masoli and company.

But with Calgary and Edmonton ahead on the schedule, we’re not ready to make the Riders a weekly lock just yet.

Friday | Ottawa 29, BC 25

We said Ottawa was due for an offensive breakout, while BC simply didn’t have the horses.

We were wrong on both counts — Ottawa’s offence struggled for the majority of Friday’s contest, and BC’s defence battled gamely — but our REDBLACKS pick came through.

With Hamilton, Toronto and Montreal looming on the schedule, Ottawa is an attractive pick through the second ‘quarter’ of the season. Especially if Jaime Elizondo’s offence figures things out.

Saturday | Winnipeg 38, Toronto 20

Our Toronto upset pick proved to be a hefty-sized swing and a miss in Week 6, and for that we apologize.

Toronto’s D, which had looked stellar in the home-and-home with Edmonton, crumpled early against Winnipeg’s versatile offence.

We weren’t the only ones who had the Argos as a ‘dog, but it’s still one that hurts.

Look for Winnipeg to come out strong in the back end of their home-and-home this week at IGF.

Saturday | Calgary 25, Montreal 8

Some how, some way, there existed a 2 per cent of #TotalPickEm players with the audacity to take Montreal on the road against undefeated Calgary.

Just take the points, you heroes.

Things may change for the Als moving forward, with an improved offensive line — Tyrell Sutton will be all smiles — and a potential starting QB in Johnny Manziel.

But until a 60-minute effort is recorded by Montreal, stay far, far away.

Check back on Wednesday for our Week 7 pick’em preview.
