Week 4 Fantasy Locks: Sticking with the hot hand

TORONTO — Pat Steinberg and Hannah Nordman are going to continue riding the best quarterbacks in the CFL, while Jeff Krever is expecting a major breakout from James Wilder Jr. in the top Fantasy plays of Week 4.

For Hannah, who spent a week on the wild side with the bargain bin selection of Chris Streveler, it’s time to play it safe with Mike Reilly, the CFL’s most productive Fantasy quarterback but also the most expensive. Hannah says it’s more than worth $14,000 for peace of mind with Reilly under centre.

“When you’re trying to be competitive in this game you need about 100 points per week to stay at the top of it, so you really need your quarterback to be getting at least 20,” Hannah said. “It’s not a position where I feel comfortable gambling. I’m going back to my safer quarterback pick this week.”

If the Eskimos’ pivot is option 1-A going into a favourable matchup against the struggling Argos, Jeremiah Masoli is a close second. With $4,000 in savings from Reilly to Masoli, and a streak of 300-plus-yard games that’s approaching double-digits, the Tiger-Cats’ pivot has to be option 1-B.

“I am all-in on this Hamilton offence right now,” said Pat. “I can’t not put Jeremiah Masoli in my lineup this week. He has been the best quarterback int he league so far, he’s over 300 yards every week. I know Saskatchewan has got some defensive playmakers, but the fact that their offence struggled to move the ball as mightily as they did last week against Montreal, that scares me.

“I think Saskatchewan struggles to move the ball once again, puts their defence in tough spots and I think Masoli and the Ticats take advantage.”

While Pat and Hannah go with the sure thing at quarterback, Jeff says he’s been waiting a couple of weeks to roll the dice on Franklin under centre. While Franklin isn’t his lock of the week, the Argos’ quarterback — and his $6,000 value — allows him plenty of roster flexibility elsewhere.

“I’m not going to pick James Franklin as my lock of the week, but I’m going to give a little bit of a wink wink, nudge nudge, you should probably have him on your team,” said Jeff. “But my lock of the week is James Wilder Jr. The tough matchups he had early on playing against the Riders, playing against the Stamps, two teams that don’t give up much on the ground — now he’s playing an Eskimos team that struggles to stop the run.

“I think Wilder can break into that secondary a few times. This is the game he really goes off and I feel good now that his price has come down.”
