Week 2 proved to be an interesting one in both the CFL standings and #TotalPickEm.
It all started in Ottawa, where the REDBLACKS punished the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders 40-17 on Thursday Night Football.
Noel Thorpe’s defence created four turnovers, while running back William Powell exploded for 118 all-purpose yards in the win.
How did most #TotalCFLPickem players fare?
The majority: Not that well.
The Riders were understandably favoured after a strong defensive showing in Week 1, but the new-look REDBLACKS defence came to ball; Kyries Hebert led the Ottawa defence with six tackles, while newcomers Rico Murray and Loucheiz Purifoy each hauled in an interception.
Moving to Friday night’s doubleheader, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers dominated the Montreal Alouettes, 56-10, in the latter’s home opener.
Winnipeg’s Chris Streveler was about as perfect as a rookie in his second professional start could be, but what about #TotalPickEm players?
They, too, were pretty much perfect.
With two losses and just 20 points to their name, the Montreal Alouettes are unlikely to see much love from #TotalPickEm players.
The late game featured two intriguing squads in the Eskimos and Ticats; both were 1-0 entering the week, but an overwhelming majority of players picked the home side.
We all know what happened — Jeremiah Masoli and the Ticats handed Edmonton a decisive loss at Commonwealth — and a whopping 89 per cent of #TotalPickEm players ended up taking the ‘L’.
The final game of Week 2 featured a Grey Cup rematch, as the Toronto Argonauts hosted the Calgary Stampeders at BMO Field.
Despite the outcome of last year’s Grey Cup, three of every four #TotalPickEm players went with the Stamps.
They were rewarded in a big way via Calgary’s 41-7 blowout win over the Argos.
As it stands, eyeofthetigercats leads the global leaderboard with 1,998 points; the Ticats fan is 8-0 thus far, and his strategy of throwing down a maximum of 200 confidence on each game has worked to his advantage.
