VANCOUVER — Veteran Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray was thrilled with his team’s well-earned result on Saturday night in Vancouver, where he and his teammates romped to a division-clinching 40-13 win over the BC Lions.

It’s just great to come in here and get a win when we really needed one,” Ray told TSN’s Farhan Lalji following Saturday’s win. “I’m so excited for these guys, we’ve worked hard all year and now it’s playoff time.”

Ray completed 76 per cent of his passes for almost 350 yards and a trio of touchdowns in a near-flawless performance en route to the win, which cemented the Argos as hosts for Nov. 19’s Eastern Final (1 p.m. ET).

The Argos pivot was efficient against a sagging Lions secondary, spreading the ball to eight different receivers including a trio — James Wilder Jr., S.J. Green and Armanti Edwards — that all hauled in five or more.

“I feel like we played really well (in) all three phases,” continued Ray. “Offensively we moved the ball really good tonight (and) scored points.”

The importance of securing a bye week and a single-game pathway to the 105th Grey Cup in Ottawa was not lost on the 38-year-old gunslinger.

It’s big, you’ve got one game to try and get to the grey Cup,” said Ray. “We’ve put ourselves in good position (and) now it’s there for the taking so we have to make sure we keep this going.”
