CALGARY — It appears that Canadian quarterback Andrew Buckley is in line to make his first career start.
Buckley is listed as the Calgary Stampeders’ starting pivot for Friday night’s game, when the team takes on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the regular season finale.
The Stamps have already secured first place in the West and a home date in the Western Final on Nov. 19.

Should Buckley start, it would mark the first time two Canadian quarterbacks have started in the same season since 1996, when Guilio Caravatta and Larry Jusdanis started for BC and Hamilton respectively. Before that, you have to go back to 1969 with Russ Jackson and Frank Cosentino.
In 1968 there were three Canadian QBs with a start: Jackson and Cosentino plus Peter Ohler for BC.
Buckley was drafted in the seventh round (62nd overall) by the Stampeders in 2015. This year, the Calgary native and Calgary Dinos alum won the backup job to Bo Levi Mitchell out of camp.
This season, Buckley has completed 19 of 24 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown in relief duty.
