WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers could be without their star pivot this week when they head to Calgary to take on the Stampeders.

According to a report from CJOB’s Bob Irving, Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea said quarterback Matt Nichols may not play this week while running back Andrew Harris “should be ready to go.”

Both Nichols and Harris were injured in Week 19’s contest against the BC Lions. The pivot suffered an apparent leg injury on a non-contact play early in the first quarter while the tailback left the game after taking a hard hit from Lions defensive back T.J. Lee late in the fourth.

The news of Harris being ready to go this week will be a sigh of relief for the Bombers but missing their starting quarterback won’t be.

Nichols has been a steady hand this season as the Bombers rocketed to second place in the West Division. But without their pivot, they risk losing that position this week as Edmonton sits tied in points with the squad. An Edmonton win and a Winnipeg loss means Edmonton gets the home playoff date and the Bombers fall to third in the division.

The injuries add to the long list the Bombers have suffered so far late in the season including Darvin Adams, Timothy Flanders, Travis Bond, Jaamal Westerman and Maurice Leggett.
