REDBLACKS Campbell praises team’s ‘belief,’ resilience in fourth quarter comebacks

“It wasn’t pretty.”

Those were some of the first words out of REDBLACKS Head Coach Rick Campbell’s mouth following his team’s comeback victory on Friday night. The REDBLACKS conceded the first 16 points of the game to the Ticats before finding their groove in the second quarter, although it would take two fourth quarter touchdown runs by William Powell to seal the victory.

“The bad news is that it’s not pretty and there’s a lot of work to be done,” Campbell continued, “the good news is they’re a very good football team and we made some mistakes… and still found a way to beat them.”

It was the REDBLACKS second fourth quarter comeback in as many games, something Campbell chalks up to his team’s ‘belief.’

“I notice with our guys that when it comes to the fourth quarter, which the playoff games are going to come down to the fourth quarter, we have a belief that we’re going to find a way to get it done,” Campbell said. “That belief that we can overcome adversity, that’s a huge part of being a good football team.”

The victory temporarily moves the REDBLACKS into first place in the East Division, though now they must wait and see what the Argonauts do next week to find out whether they’ll be hosting the East Final at TD Place Stadium or battling in the East Semis in two week’s time.

“It’s big, it’s puts the ball back in [Toronto’s] court,” said Campbell. “Now they’ve got to go out there with all their guys and win on the West Coast, so it was big to come out with the win today.”
