TORONTO — According to Roughriders head coach Chris Jones, there is no quarterback controversy in his locker room.
Despite Brandon Bridge replacing Kevin Glenn, who was struggling to start the contest, Jones says there is no controversy between who is the starting pivot for the Riders.
During a media scrum after his team’s 27-24 win over the Argonauts, he compared Saturday afternoon’s situation to a relief pitcher in baseball.
“In professional baseball, when somebody has a big of a slow time in an inning, what do they do?'” Jones asked. “They bring in the guy that they call in relief. And that’s all we did. He (Glenn) wasn’t feeling it tonight. Wasn’t seeing it, I didn’t feel like. They were getting to him. We have to protect him. We’ve talked about it before.”

Before getting pulled out of the game during the second quarter, Glenn connected on three of eight passes for 29 yards. But before any mention of Glenn not starting next week got off the ground, Jones quickly shut it down.
“He (Glenn) will still be our starting quarterback and we just have to move on to our next game,” said Jones.
Despite getting benched during the game, Glenn was there supporting the Mississauga native throughout the entire game – something that isn’t new to the team.
“Whoever’s out there, we support them,” Bridge said after receiving the game ball from his team. “And that’s exactly how it was on the sideline. Kevin Glenn supported me and I would support him. He wasn’t sulking, he was a true pro and I have so much respect for him.”
Bridge connected on 20 of 28 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in relief – a role that the 25-year-old doesn’t mind playing.
“People have to play the reliever role,” he said. “Obviously Damon Allen had to play that at one point in time in his career and obviously you see what he’s done. I’ve known Damon Allen for a long time and he’s always been a great mentor for me. He’d always tell me, ‘be in there. Be patient and learn.’
“Learn from a legend. We have KG, a future hall of famer, and just go out there and every time you get that opportunity just go out there and make the best of it.”
The Riders now head home to host the Ottawa REDBLACKS as they continue to fight for position in the West Division.
“We actually feel good,” said Bridge. “We know that we control our own destiny.”
