Week 14 Fantasy Injury Report: Who’s in and who’s out?

David Chidley/CFL.ca

The REDBLACKS will start their third different pivot in as many weeks while the Tiger-Cats are starting a running back who was cut by the team in training camp. Other teams will welcome players fresh off the injured list, while at the same time adding a new batch of the banged up and bruised.

Such is life as Week 14 of the regular season commences, for as the weather cools down, the list of walking wounded continues without ceasing.

Diontae Spencer‘s value could be affected by the return of Quincy McDuffie (Johany Jutras/CFL.ca)

Ryan Lindley ($5,000) gets the nod for the injured Drew Tate ($5,665), who is still listed third on the depth chart despite rib and shoulder injuries. Lindley has a big arm and can get the ball downfield, but don’t be shocked if the REDBLACKS resort once again to a heavy dose of running back William Powell ($6,218). Newcomer Kevin Elliott ($3,683) starts in place of Joshua Stangby ($3,326), who is on the one-game injured list. Ottawa will get back receiver/return specialist Quincy McDuffie ($2,500), whose return puts a dent in the value of receiver Diontae Spencer, who had been an all-purpose dynamo in McDuffie’s absence.

While the Blue Bombers have their share of minor injuries, they do not have a significant skill position player whose status will impact the team or Fantasy owners.

The absence of C.J. Gable opens the door for rookie running back Alex Green (The Canadian Press)

The Ticats will start running back Alex Green ($2,500), who was cut by the team at the end of training camp yet recently came back into the fold. Green gets the nod as C.J. Gable ($5,776) nurses a shoulder injury sustained in last week’s loss to the Roughriders. Green has a skill-set similar to Gable’s but is too much of a risk for Fantasy owners to invest. Gable is listed third on the depth chart behind Sean Thomas Erlington ($2,500), who could get the first touches of his career. Ross Scheuerman ($2,500) moves to the one-game injured list.

Shamawd Chambers ($2,500) could be intriguing, as he will start in place of suspended receiver Mike Jones. Acquired from Edmonton last Sunday, Chambers is a deep threat who could exploit a Lions secondary that has allowed a league-high 26 passes of 30 yards or more.

Both pivot Jonathon Jennings ($7,252) and running back/return specialist Chris Rainey ($6,440) should be good to go despite being banged up in last week’s loss to the Stampeders. Jennings continues to struggle and is a huge Fantasy risk. This could be the type of game in which Rainey’s all-purpose skills make him a solid play as a RB2.

James Wilder Jr. is coming off a career game in Week 13’s win over Edmonton (The Canadian Press)

Brandon Whitaker remains on the one-game IL after the mammoth game James Wilder ($3,570) had against the Eskimos last week. Receiver Jeff Fuller ($2,500), who was placed on the one-game injured list last week, also remains off the active roster.

In Montreal, Alouettes receiver Alex Carroll ($2,500) remains on the six-game injured list, while receiver T.J. Graham ($2,500) has been activated and is listed at receiver behind B.J. Cunningham on the depth chart. Brandon Rutley remains off the active roster along with fullback Jean-Christophe Beaulieu ($2,500).

Jerome Messam has a fair chance to suit up at running back for the Stamps on Sunday (Johany Jutras/CFL.ca)

Despite the brutal hit he sustained last week, running back Jerome Messam ($6,943) is a good possibility to be in the starting lineup for the Stampeders. He will be, as usual, a strong RB1 candidate. Receiver DaVaris Daniels ($6,194) will likely miss his second straight game as his injured knee limited him in workouts this week. Reginald Begelton ($2,500), who scored his first career major last week, will likely remain in Daniels’ position. Kamar Jorden ($6,012) will remain sidelined longer despite the hope that he would return off the six-game injured list either on Sunday or in next week’s game against the Alouettes. Coach Dave Dickenson said Jordan would get another stint on the six-game injured list.

The Roughriders will get quarterback Kevin Glenn ($11,191) back into the lineup after he missed last week’s win over the Ticats with a bruised right hand. The news gets better for Saskatchewan, as receiver Duron Carter ($6,208) is fine after an ankle injury took him out early in last week’s game. Running back Cameron Marshall ($6,818) is out at least another week, making Kienan LaFrance ($3,500) a reasonable RB2 option.
