Week 10 Fantasy Recap: Seeing Doubles

Dominick Gravel/Montreal Alouettes

Darian Durant did all he could to lead the Alouettes to victory, and while he and Montreal fell in an overtime heartbreaker to Winnipeg, those who chose him as their Fantasy pivot were rewarded with an effort that topped the Week 10 field with his performance.

Durant completed 31 of his 43 pass attempts for 316 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 32 yards on three carries, numbers that gave him 23.8 Fantasy points, a total that eventually allowed him to hold off Calgary receiver DaVaris Daniels for the top total. Few Fantasy owners rolled the dice on Durant, who was coming off a season-low 1.7 FP the previous week against Toronto.

Two other quarterbacks crossed the 20 FP plateau in Week 10, as Winnipeg’s Matt Nichols put up 22.3 FP in the Blue Bombers’ victory over the Alouettes, while Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell rebounded from a rough Week 9 to deliver 21.4 FP in the Stampeders’ victory over the Argonauts. Mitchell, who has been dealing with arm issues, silenced his detractors with a pair of touchdown passes to Daniels while recording his fourth 300-yard game of the season.

On the flip side, BC’s Jonathon Jennings had just 4.4 Fantasy Points before being benched in favor of Travis Lulay in the Lions’ loss to the REDBLACKS. Perhaps the biggest surprise was Edmonton’s Mike Reilly, who put up just nine FP in the Eskimos’ setback against the Roughriders, snapping his streak of five straight games with at least 20 Fantasy Points.

Ottawa’s Mossis Madu made the most of his start in place of William Powell, putting up 20.2 Fantasy Points in the win over BC. Madu ran for just 42 yards on 11 carries and had five catches for 40 yards, yet scored a major on the ground and through the air to give him a total that topped the position. BC’s Jeremiah Johnson wasn’t too far behind with 19 FP, as the Lions back equaled Madu’s effort by scoring on both a run and a reception. Saskatchewan’s Cameron Marshall delivered 16.5 FP while Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris (10.8), LaDarius Perkins of the Eskimos (10.8 FP) and Roy Finch of Calgary (10.5) all put up double-digit Fantasy Points.

Stampeders back Jerome Messam (9.1 FP) had his streak of four games with at least one major come to an end, yet the most frustrating numbers came from Toronto’s Brandon Whitaker, who was held to just 4.4 Fantasy Points by the Calgary defence.

Daniels snapped out of his skid with eight catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns, giving him 23.4 FP for the week. BC’s Bryan Burnham came off the injured list to deliver 17.2 FP on the strength of eight receptions for 112 yards and a major, while Ottawa’s Diontae Spencer had 317 all-purpose yards and finished with 17.1 FP. Winnipeg’s Clarence Denmark recorded 16.7 FP as he caught a pair of touchdowns to help the Blue Bombers hold off Montreal. Saskatchewan’s Duron Carter (10.7 Fantasy Points) and Emmanuel Arceneaux (10.1), along with Edmonton’s D’haquille Williams (10.1) were among the tops at the position in Fantasy output.

In a rare occurrence, REDBLACKS receiver Greg Ellingson managed just four Fantasy points in Ottawa’s victory over BC, in which Lions deep threat Chris Williams had only 2.3 FP in his first contest against his former teammates.
