Week 7 Fantasy Recap: Collaros gets the ball rolling

Edmonton pivot Mike Reilly was quite fond of the end zone in Week 7, as he accounted for four majors in the Eskimos’ 33-28 win over Hamilton. Reilly passed for a pair of scores and crossed the goal line twice via the ground on his way to putting up 35.8 Fantasy points. The bundle of touchdowns was enhanced his 317 passing yards, marking the third straight week Reilly eclipsed the 300-yard barrier.

Reilly was one of four quarterbacks to tally at least 20 FP last week, including a season-high 23.4 FP from Hamilton’s Zach Collaros. Bo Levi Mitchell tallied 22 FP in Calgary’s victory over Toronto and BC’s Travis Lulay put up 20.7 points for his Fantasy owners. On the flip side of matters, Saskatchewan’s Kevin Glenn was held to 4.6 FP in the loss to BC, while Ricky Ray produced 7.6 FP before he was injured in Toronto’s setback to Calgary.

Week 7 did not see a monster effort from the running back position, as Stampeders do-all Roy Finch topped the field with 18.3 Fantasy points, the bulk of which came via his 164 punt return yards. Finch’s second return for a touchdown in as many weeks accounted for 103 return yards. William Powell appeared to be on his way to a huge night for Fantasy owners, putting up 17.5 FP before the Ottawa lead back left in the second half of the REDBLACKS’ loss to Winnipeg.

Finch’s Stampeders teammate, Jerome Messam, had 15 FP that included his fifth rushing major in the last three games, with Edmonton’s LaDarius Perkins racking up 12.2 FP in his first start of the season, while BC’s Jeremiah Johnson delivered 11.2 FP despite having his streak of at least one touchdown end at six games.

Fantasy owners felt heartache and disappointment in the production of Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris, who finished with 6.3 FP as he shared backfield duties with Timothy Flanders for the first time this season. A week after recording the first 100-yard effort of his brief career, Saskatchewan’s Cameron Marshall had just 6.3 points against the BC defence, while Toronto’s Brandon Whitaker returned to the lineup and produced just 2.7 FP in the loss to Calgary.

Savvy Stampeders veteran Marquay McDaniel had the best week among receivers, finishing with 19.7 Fantasy points as he caught a pair of touchdowns from Mitchell among the eight receptions and 77 yards he recorded. McDaniel’s numbers were slightly better than BC’s Bryan Burnham, who caught five passes for 131 yards and major that gave him 19.1 FP.

Saskatchewan’s Duron Carter followed up an impressive Week 6 outing by putting up 14.8 FP in the Roughriders’ loss at the Lions, while Toronto’s S.J Green had 14.7. Hamilton’s Demarr Aultman turned a 13.4 FP effort in his first regular season game in the league. Carter’s pass-catching partner, Naaman Roosevelt, finished with 12.5 FP as he scored for a second straight week.

Injuries cost Fantasy owners of Edmonton’s Brandon Zylstra (2.1 FP), while Bakari Grant’s 3.2 FP was the result of just 32 receiving yards and a lost fumble. Ottawa’s Diontae Spencer continued to disappoint Fantasy owners hoping the REDBLACKS receiver returns to his early success, as he had only 2.5 FP.
