RotoExperts: Week 7 Fantasy Rankings

Johany Jutras/CFL.ca

Mike Reilly will cost $14,000 in Week 7, yet the Eskimos’ pivot will be worth it as they face a winless Tiger-Cats team that is allowing over 40 points per game. Undefeated Edmonton may have to throw often because starting running back Travon Van ($4,644) could be out. Van left last week’s win over BC with an upper body injury leaving his availability uncertain for Week 7. Veteran fullback Calvin McCarty ($2,500) stepped up and rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries, so he could be the lead back until Edmonton either gets Van back or they sign a runner currently on the free agent market.

Eskimos receiver Brandon Zylstra ($6,045) has hit double-digit Fantasy points for three straight weeks and should be in line for a fourth against the struggling Ticats secondary, while teammates Vidal Hazelton ($5,176) and D’haquille Williams ($2,500) each hit the 100-yard plateau in the win over the Lions, making the prospects of stacking Edmonton receivers an interesting prospect.

Outside of Edmonton, Week 7 offers a season-high seven pivots with salaries over $10,000, as Ottawa’s Trevor Harris ($11,274) returns from the open week. Fantasy owners will have little choice but to commit more than a quarter of their salary on a passer, with an eighth possibly in play if BC decides to bring back Jonathon Jennings ($10,078) replaces Travis Lulay ($10,463) and returns to the Lions lineup after missing the last two games with a shoulder injury.

BC’s Jeremiah Johnson ($8,817) tops the running back position again as he seeks a seventh straight week with a major, while Winnipeg’s Andrew Harris ($8,564) brings his dual-threat skills to the table after catching 21 passes the last two weeks. REDBLACKS back William Powell ($5,161) should be well-rested and up to the challenge of facing a rugged Blue Bombers run defence. Toronto’s Martese Jackson put up 205 all-purpose yards in last week’s loss at Saskatchewan and is a good $2,500 bargain, especially if he can get more offensive touches.

A returning Greg Ellingson ($7,155) has the highest salary at receiver, yet his production has been well worth the price thus far. Teammate Brad Sinopoli ($5,510) makes the Top 5 in a Week 7 that sees Toronto’s Anthony Coombs ($3341) making the biggest climb, while the Roughriders’ trio of Naaman Roosevelt ($6,593), Bakari Grant ($5,382) and Duron Carter ($5,369) each crack the Top 15.

As has been the case the previous two weeks, the defence facing Hamilton is the top unit, with the Eskimos ($4,307) getting the honor against an offence that has put up only 90 points in their first five games.
