TORONTO — The Argos’ offence got off to a hot start under Marc Trestman, racking up 515 yards of offence, including 506 through the air, in a Week 1 win over the Ticats.

In a 32-15 victory at BMO Field, the Boatmen controlled the clock and carried the game’s momentum from start to finish while a 37-year-old Ricky Ray threw for a career-high 506 passing yards. Not lost in the shadow of Ray’s performance, however, is the play of the Argos’ pass-catchers.

Ray had eight different targets on the day with four eclipsing the 70-yard mark and three going over 100 in an unprecedented day by all accounts:

DeVier Posey had a game-high seven catches for 147 yards and a touchdown while S.J. Green added 124 yards and Jeff Fuller 104, pacing one of the most impressive air attacks seen in a game in recent memory.

The occurrence of three receivers going over the century mark in the game game has only happened six times dating back to 2005, when Ray himself connected with Ed Hervey (105), Justin Tucker (150) and Derrell Mitchell (145). The last occurrence was in 2013 when Henry Burris, then a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, distributed most of his 375 passing yards among C.J. Gable (108), Greg Ellingson (111) and Andy Fantuz (112).

Coincidentally, the last time the Argos accomplished the feat was in 1997, also on opening day. Doug Flutie threw for 438 yards and four touchdowns with Michael Clemons (137), Paul Masotti (106) and Derrell Mitchell (103) all going over 100 yards.
