Eskimos climb up Nissan Titan Power Rankings

TORONTO — Calgary clinched the top spot in the West Division with their dominant 48-20 victory over the Argonauts at BMO Field on Thanksgiving Monday.

They’ve extended their unbeaten streak to 14, have won 12 in a row and remain ahead of the pack in the Nissan Titan Power Rankings – they surely had a lot to be thankful for this past weekend.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders moved up three spots after their overtime victory over the REDBLACKS but can they continue their rise? Meanwhile, the Bombers and Eskimos also moved up after their Week 16 performances.

This Week: 1 | Last Week: 1

Calgary has done it again. Unbeaten since Week 1, the Stamps continue their roll through the CFL, this time defeating the Argos. Jerome Messam became the first player this season to go over 1000 yards rushing in the win, collecting 133 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown in Calgary’s 13th victory of the season. With just three games left to play, (hosting the Als and Argos and finally visiting Montreal) will the Stampeders ever lose again?

This Week: 2 | Last Week: 3

The Bombers’ Week 16 win not only snapped their two game losing streak, but they also clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2011. The win over BC also brought Winnipeg into a tie in points with the Lions in the West. The two teams meet again this week, this time in Vancouver, as the Bombers have a chance to take over sole possession of second place.

This Week: 3 | Last Week: 2

Despite Jonathon Jennings throwing for 422 yards and two touchdowns and Bryan Burnham hauling in 208 yards on nine catches, the Lions couldn’t hold off the Bombers last week to separate themselves from Winnipeg in the West. It wasn’t all bad news for the Lions in Week 16, as with both Toronto and Montreal losses, they clinched a playoff birth for the 20th consecutive season. Now, facing the same Bomber squad in Week 17, BC is at risk of losing position and falling into third.

This Week: 4 | Last Week: 5

Edmonton scored 20 points in the third quarter of the first game of Thanksgiving Monday’s doubleheader en route to a 40-20 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. The Esks head into a Week 17 bye with confidence, taking a three game winning streak into their week of rest. Edmonton returns to the field in Week 18 when they take on the BC Lions.

This Week: 5 | Last Week: 4

Down by 15 points in the fourth quarter, the REDBLACKS made a switch at quarterback from Trevor Harris to Henry Burris and rallied together to take the game to overtime. Burris made use of Ellingson twice to bring the club to 22-22 tie with just three minutes left in the contest before ultimately falling to the Riders in extra time. Ottawa will continue to roll with Burris this week, as he has been announced to start against the Tiger-Cats, when they visit Hamilton this week in a battle for first place in the East.

This Week: 6 | Last Week: 9

Three straight wins. That’s what the Riders have strung together, including their Week 16 overtime win over the REDBLACKS. It looks like Chris Jones’ squad has finally started to gel together as they look ahead to what’s to come next season with their playoff hopes dashed for this season. Hoping to keep rolling this week, Saskatchewan heads to Toronto to take on the struggling Argonauts.

Jeremiah Masoli will be under centre when the Tiger-Cats host the REDBLACKS in the first half of a home-and-home with their division rivals. Zach Collaros has been ruled out of the game to recover from a concussion after leaving Week 15’s matchup against the Stampeders at halftime and Luke Tasker will also not dress in the contest. After a busy bye week for the Tabbies, who made a trade with the Riders, and signed a few key players, the Tiger-Cats will hope to take over the top spot in the East with a win over Ottawa.

This Week: 8 | Last Week: 6

The Alouettes fell to 4-10 on the season after their disappointing loss to the Eskimos last week. After winning just one of their last six contests, the Als need to turn things around, and quickly, if they want to stay in the playoff mix. It won’t be easy for Montreal this week, as they head to Calgary to take on the red-hot Stampeders.

Things haven’t gotten any easier for the Toronto Argonauts. The club has lost eight of their last nine games, including a 48-20 loss to the Stampeders in Week 16. And yet, the Argos still remain in playoff contention, as they’re just three points behind the REDBLACKS for first place and two behind the Tiger-Cats for second. The Boatmen hope to turn things around when they host the Riders this week.
