MONTREAL — Nobody can say that Duron Carter’s return to Montreal hasn’t been interesting.
From his Week 2 incident with the Ottawa REDBLACKS that led to a suspension, to his reaction thereof, to his rather active Twitter feed to his even more active banter on the field, Carter is no stranger to the spotlight.
Even a well-documented run-in with quarterback Rakeem Cato this week has done nothing to slow down the discussion around Carter, his role on the team and the perception others around the league have of him.
That said, Carter is soaking in every possible moment he has to play the role of the public enemy no. 1 in visiting parks.
In an interview with James Cybulski of ‘The Waggle’ podcast earlier this week, Carter said: “I like (being the villain). I love all the animosity it brings. People don’t even know me but they just don’t like me. There’s something about me and I just love it. I think about it all the time when I catch a ball. When a guy says something to me in the stands, you know, drinking his two beers, I remember that. That’s how I play. I go back and I look at him and he can’t say anything.”
Carter and Cybulski covered a number of topics including growing up the son of a hall of fame receiver and the entertainment he finds in trash talking in visiting stadiums.
“They find me,” Carter said of visiting fans who chirp from the stands. “I can go down and sit on the bench and all I hear is, ‘Carter! Hey Carter! Carter!’ and I smile. It’s entertainment. People come to football games, they want to have fun, they want to be able to interact with a player and I give them that.”
