CFL Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup: Week 13

Johany Jutras/CFL.ca

TORONTO — The last few weeks we’ve been spoiled with great marquee matchups. After Labour Day two weeks ago and the Banjo Bowl last week, what can we do for an encore?

Saturday night’s matchup between Ottawa and Calgary may not bring the same heat as some of the league’s greatest rivalries, but the intrigue will definitely be there when the East Division leader visits the West Division leader in a Week 13 clash.

This week’s Marquee Matchup has potential Grey Cup preview written all over it, and even perhaps a meeting of future MOP finalists as Trevor Harris and Bo Levi Mitchell square off — two of the league’s best quarterbacks this season statistically.

Think back to the last time these teams met and it gets even sweeter. Ottawa and Calgary played to a 26-26 tie back in Week 3 and have actually gone to overtime in two of their last three meetings.

While the Stampeders aim for their ninth straight win and look to build on their lead atop the West, the REDBLACKS are coming off a bye week and hold just a one-point edge over the Ticats and Argos for first place in the East.

Can anyone tackle the Stamps? Will the REDBLACKS stay on track to win the East? All these questions and more in this week’s CFL Pick ‘Em Marquee Matchup.

With eight straight wins and a 10-game unbeaten streak, can anyone stop the Stampeders? The REDBLACKS came close back in Week 3 after coming within inches of sending Calgary to a 1-2 record early in the season — but after Calgary rallied for the tie, rookie head coach Dave Dickenson has gotten his team on a pretty good roll.

The majority of fans — 85 per cent — believe the Stamps will continue their assault on the 2016 CFL schedule this week with a win over a REDBLACKS team that’s lost four of its last six games. But while the Stamps are the heavy favourite in the eyes of fans, don’t expect this one to be so one-sided on the field.

While the fans are all-in on the Stamps — and why not, they’ve been money so far this year — the writers are slightly less certain. Four of six writers are going with Calgary while Jamie Nye and Don Landry are calling for an upset by the road team.

It’s a gutsy call considering Calgary’s impeccable home record both this year and in recent history, but it’s hard to ignore Don Landry’s 29-19 record overall this season and 10-1 record in Marquee Matchups.
