Weekly Predictor: Will the Argos make it two straight?

TORONTO — The BC Lions holding off the Alouettes; Winnipeg nabbing their sixth straight win over Saskatchewan; the Stampeders’ comeback overtime victory in Edmonton and Toronto upsetting the Tiger-Cats in the Labour Day rematch all led to CFL.ca’s Jamie Nye to a 2-2 record in Week 12.

This week Nye looks to improve his record in his Weekly Predictor.

MONTREAL @ HAMILTON

Can Rakeem Cato and his offence put their differences aside and get a win in Hamilton? (The Canadian Press)

I can’t ignore some of the public dysfunction we are seeing out of Montreal. It’s never a healthy sign for a team, especially when it involves some big name players on the offensive side of the ball. The Alouettes defence is still good enough to get the job done and get the Als back in the fight in the East, but the offence needs to work out their differences if this team is going any where.

The Tiger-Cats are bound to get their stuff together, though the defence is the one that needs to get things going. The offence is the second highest scoring group in the league so there is no problems there, but they’ve already given up over 300 points this season.

Good thing they’re taking on the eighth best offence this week.

TORONTO @ WINNIPEG

Will Weston Dressler, and the rest of the Blue Bombers, extend their winning streak to seven? (The Canadian Press)

This match-up would be extra special if Drew Willy was starting a week after being traded but that won’t be the case. Instead, Dan LeFevour will try to show Head Coach Scott Milanovich that he can get the job done and have the Argonauts challenging for not only a home playoff game but maybe even the East Final.

The Bombers are cruising with six straight wins and a defence that just picked up another big play guy in T.J. Heath. I think that defence will create some turnovers against LeFevour now that they have a little film on him playing in the Argos’ offence.

OTTAWA @ CALGARY

Trevor Harris looks to keep his team on top of the East with a win over the Stampeders this week (CFL.ca)

I pegged the game earlier in the season as one of those potential Grey Cup previews and the REDBLACKS and Stampeders didn’t disappoint in a 26-26 tie.

Ottawa is coming off a longer week of rest as the Stampeders are back at home after an emotional comeback win against the Eskimos. Sometimes teams can have an emotional lull after a big set of games like the Stamps just had against a divisional foe.

The Stamps are unbeaten in 10 games but there is a time for good things to end.

I’m going to take the fresher team, making a tough trip West. The REDBLACKS still have a lot to show the rest of the CFL and coming off a lack luster win against Montreal, I think Trevor Harris will find that groove that he had to begin the season.

EDMONTON @ SASKATCHEWAN

Do the Riders have what it takes to match one of the league’s hottest offences in the Eskimos? (CFL.ca)

The Eskimos are similar to the Tiger-Cats. They can score a pile but they give up way too many on the defensive side of the ball. The Roughriders have had some of their best games of the season against the Eskimos and both those games were on the road. I think the Riders offence is close to a breakthrough and with Curtis Steele potentially returning this week that can only spell good things for the guys in green and white.

But I can’t for the life of me pick the Riders to beat a team that just about beat the Stampeders a week ago. I’m thinking this will be a 33-30 type game, however.

Matt Nichols continues to win in Winnipeg and his value of $6,800 is fantastic for a regular starter in the CFL on a six game winning streak and playing at home!

Weston Dressler continues to get his share of looks from Nichols and looks like he’s on his way to having a strong second half of the season now that he’s healthy.

The Montreal Alouettes secret to success may be starting to get Tyrell Sutton a little more involved in the offence and with Hamilton’s strong front seven, maybe a little more Sutton could keep them off balance. Brandon Whitaker is coming off a big day against the Tiger-Cats defence.

The value saved up at QB/RB allow you to go big on big play receivers, whether it be Chris Williams, Derel Walker, Adarius Bowman, Naaman Roosevelt etc etc, who appear to be automatic value. (Note: Roosevelt could be banged up so keep an eye on practice reports out of Saskatchewan)

Kevin Elliott appears to be a favourite of Dan LeFevour so he’s a low value receiver with a possibility for large returns.

As for the Tiger-Cats defence, they give up a lot but they can also get their fair share of turnovers and the Alouettes offence is still struggling that’s why I’m hesitant to play Sutton but hey… no risk, no reward in these games.
