A dozen quarterbacks saw meaningful action in Week 16. That means a lengthy and interesting QB Scorecard, so let’s get right to the goods.
1) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 16 stats: 32-44, 397 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT & 16-21, 182 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Even though Harris was the only quarterback to play two games in Week 16, which inflates his numbers, he still led the Argos to two big wins and threw seven touchdowns in the process.
2) Jeff Mathews, Ticats
Week 16 stats: 22-33, 385 yards, 3 TD
Mathews put on a masterful performance that should boost his confidence going forward. He threw with great anticipation and timing against Saskatchewan.
3) Jonathon Jennings, Lions
Week 16 stats: 24-31, 372 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT
BC’s first-year QB produced a stellar first half in throwing for 307 yards and three touchdowns, but he managed just 65 yards in the second half. Not being able to sustain drives in the last two frames allowed Winnipeg to earn a comeback victory.
4) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 16 stats: 27-35, 250 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Even though a 40-year-old Burris was playing his third game in 11 days, Hank gave Ottawa a chance to win until Chad Owens pulled off a superhuman catch.
5) Mike Reilly, Eskimos
Week 16 stats: 29-40, 264 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
An early bounce didn’t go in Reilly’s favour when Cory Watson got hammered and the ball popped into the hands of Maleki Harris for an interception. However, that didn’t affect Edmonton’s No. 13 as he provided a steady effort on the way to the Eskimos winning their fifth straight game.
6) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders
Week 16 stats: 17-32, 230 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
Mitchell really never looked comfortable throwing the football against Edmonton’s secondary. In fact, Calgary’s franchise pivot has three touchdowns and five interceptions when facing the Eskimos three times this season. If the Stamps are going to win the West Mitchell has to improve his play when facing the Green and Gold.
7) Matt Nichols, Bombers
Week 16 stats: 19-34, 179 yards, 1 TD
On the Bombers’ biggest offensive snap of the season Nichols hit Clarence Denmark for a 16-yard touchdown on third and goal in the red zone. That major tied the game and helped propel the Bombers to a comeback victory that really increased their playoff chances.
8) Brett Smith, Riders
Week 16 stats: 11-20, 243 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
It was 20-0 for Hamilton when Smith got the call to start the second half for Saskatchewan. The rookie was able to lead a couple touchdowns drives, but it was clear Orlondo Steinauer was less aggressive in the final 30 minutes with the Ticats in control.
9) Rakeem Cato, Alouettes
Week 16 stats: 9-12, 72 yards
Just when it seemed like Cato had found a little rhythm an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the game.
10) Tanner Marsh, Alouettes
Week 16 stats: 9-14, 119 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Upon entering the game, Marsh turned the football over on his first two drives and that helped create a two-score hole the Als could not recover from.
11) Anthony Boone, Alouettes
Week 16 stats: 6-12, 51 yards, 1 INT
Coming off the bench is never easy, but Boone struggled to get Montreal’s offence moving and because of that he found himself back on the sidelines.
12) Kevin Glenn, Riders
Week 16 stats: 11-17, 67 yards, 1 INT
Glenn’s outing at Tim Hortons Field is likely one he wants to forget as he was benched after failing to produce any points in the first half.
