QB Scorecard and Starters: Close call at the top

THE CANADIAN PRESS

Two quarterbacks with a 17-year age difference put up impressive performances in Week 15. 40-year-old Henry Burris proved he can still weave together masterpieces despite his age. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Jonathon Jennings continued to show signs that he may be a keeper. Let’s see where the elder statesman and young up-and-comer rank along with all the other pivots on the QB Scorecard.

1) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 15 stats: 45-53, 504 yards, 2 TD; 7 carries, 13 yards, 2 TD

Hank was NBA Jam-style on fire against Montreal, he couldn’t miss. Burris set a CFL record for completions in a game with 45 and he produced a new career-high with 504 yards passing. After that outing Burris has to be the new frontrunner for CFL MOP.

2) Jonathon Jennings, Lions
Week 15 stats: 19-25, 364 yards, 4 TD

BC rang up 46 points thanks in large part to a rookie slinging the rock. Jennings’ seemingly effortless delivery and pinpoint accuracy make it fun to watch him play. Now the first-year CFLer needs to prove that he’s not just a flash in the pan.

3) Matt Nichols, Bombers

Week 15 stats: 22-39, 320 yards, 1 TD

If only Nichols could kick because he played more than well enough for Winnipeg to earn a victory against Edmonton – four missed field goals ultimately did the Bombers in. Nichols has looked increasingly comfortable in Winnipeg’s offence, but the team desperately needs a win in any way possible.

4) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders
Week 15 stats: 25-40, 230 yards, 1 TD

When you take into consideration the howling wind at Tim Hortons Field, Mitchell’s stat line looks even more impressive. Up to 60 KM gusts blew during the Stamps-Ticats matchup, but it didn’t seem to affect Bo Levi.

5) Mike Reilly, Eskimos
Week 15 stats: 30-42, 298 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

Reilly’s 55-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stafford was a thing of beauty. And No. 13 delivered in the clutch by putting Edmonton in position for the eventual game-winning field goal. It was a much-needed strong performance from Reilly.

6) Jeff Mathews, Ticats
Week 15 stats: 15-23, 155 yards, 1 INT; 6 carries, 13 yards, 1 TD

Solid would be the best word to describe Mathews’ first career CFL start. Strong wind did not help his cause, but Mathews will have to play better no matter what elements Hamilton plays in down the stretch.

7) Kevin Glenn, Riders
Week 15 stats: 15-21, 185 yards, 2 INT

Much more was expected from Glenn in perfect conditions inside B.C. Place. He turned the football over three times and Saskatchewan could not recover from a horrid start.

8) Rakeem Cato, Alouettes
Week 15 stats: 12-17, 75 yards

Cato really needs to prove he can hurt defences throwing to the intermediate and deep areas of the football field. Teams have seen the film and game-planned to take away underneath routes.
