QB Scorecard and Starters: Hank stays hot over the bye

CFL.ca

An intense rivalry came down to the last play in a showdown of young pivots; new scenery helped produce a win for a veteran pivot; and star status was restored as one everlasting passer continues to get it done. Week 12 provided all kinds of quarterback performances so let’s see where they graded out on the QB Scorecard.

1) Mike Reilly, Eskimos
Week 12 stats: 22-40, 352 yards, 3 TD

Reilly hit some big plays to turn the game in Edmonton’s favour. That’s an area where the passing game was lacking when he was on the sidelines. Reilly elevates the Eskimos to legitimate Grey Cup contenders as long as he’s healthy.

2) Zach Collaros, Ticats

Week 12 stats: 22-31, 254 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT; 5 carries, 30 yards

A fiery Collaros kept the Ticats’ offence moving at Rogers Centre as Hamilton had just one two-and-out in the entire game. No. 4’s ability to capitalize and score points off turnovers – mostly touchdowns – has been a big key for the black and gold.

3) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 12 stats: 26-37, 317 yards; 4 carries, 31 yards

Hank has looked really comfortable in Jason Maas’ offence and that’s due in large part to the veteran pivot developing a strong rapport with all the new targets wearing Red and Black. The 40-year-old continues to prove he can play at a high level – no matter which stadium he’s in.

4) Matt Nichols, Bombers
Week 12 stats: 21-30, 283 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Ball security needs to be better from Nichols, as two fumbles and an interception allowed Saskatchewan to stay close much longer than should’ve been possible. Despite the turnovers he was able to provide a steady passing attack in his first start with Winnipeg.

5) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 12 stats: 20-35, 257 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT; 8 carries, 36 yards

After playing at such a high level to begin the season, Harris has three straight sub par performances and coincidentally Toronto has dropped three games in a row. Expect the Argos’ pivot to come back strong from the bye week.

6) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders

Week 12 stats: 25-41, 244 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

It was a decent performance from Mitchell, but he wasn’t able to connect on any big passing plays to loosen up Edmonton’s defence.

7) John Beck, Lions
Week 12 stats: 20-29, 207 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

An early fourth quarter interception with the Lions down just six points led to their undoing at BC Place. Until that mistake, Beck had BC in a position to make a late-game push for a victory, but it wasn’t to be.

8) Brett Smith, Riders
Week 12 stats: 13-28, 114 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT; 4 carries, 53 yards

Under constant pressure, Smith never really looked comfortable inside the pocket in a Banjo Bowl loss.
