QB Scorecard and Starters: Burris back on top

THE CANADIAN PRESS

Quarterbacks provided lots of entertainment in Week 7 – Brett Smith dodging would-be Argo tacklers and chucking the ball down field was fun to watch. Gunslingers around the league were on point, which made it tough ranking them on the QB Scorecard.

1) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 7 stats: 32-44, 323 yards, 2 TD

Hank seems to be finding a groove in Jason Maas’ offence and with all of his new targets. Burris has thrown for 712 yards, five touchdowns and most importantly zero interceptions in his last two games – both against top tier defences.

2) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 7 stats: 23-29, 316 yards, 2 TD

After a slow start, Harris engineered two fourth quarter touchdown drives to help navigate Toronto to a comeback victory. Once again, No. 7 proves his team will always have a chance to win when he’s behind centre no matter the situation.

3) Zach Collaros, Ticats
Week 7 stats: 20-32, 280 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT

Collaros capitalized and put the ball in the end zone after impact special teams plays in the first quarter. That allowed the Ticats to jump out to a 21-0 lead midway through the opening frame and cruise to victory.

4) Brett Smith, Riders
Week 7 stats: 23-35, 298 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

What a difference a week makes. Smith put forth a much better outing in his second CFL start compared to his first. His playmaking ability on the run is strong, but he needs to be more patient and productive throwing from the pocket.

5) Rakeem Cato, Alouettes
Week 7 stats: 20-31, 303 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

Cato threw two red zone interceptions that essentially cost Montreal the game. Bad decisions like those are holding No. 12 back from becoming a consistent winner in the CFL.

6) Travis Lulay, Lions
Week 7 stats: 16-31, 195 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT

When it mattered most Lulay stepped up and delivered. With just over a minute left in the game and BC down 23-18, he dropped in a perfect pass to Andrew Harris for a game-winning 31-yard touchdown.

7) Drew Willy, Bombers
Week 7 stats: 16-27, 171 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

Winnipeg’s franchise pivot was battered and beaten from the get-go in the Hammer. Here’s to hoping that knee injury is only a minor setback.

8) Matt Nichols, Eskimos
Week 7 stats: 26-42, 262 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT

Edmonton was shutout in the second half in BC as the Lions rallied for a comeback win. Even though No. 1 receiver Adarius Bowman spent the final 30 minutes on the sideline in civvies, Nichols has to find a way to put points on the board and keep the offence moving.
