An impressive comeback and a gritty effort made for a tough decision in selecting the top quarterback performance in Week 6. Add in some efficient outings and that made some close calls on the QB scorecard, so let’s get to the goods.
1) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders
Week 6 stats: 23-32, 329 yards, 2 TD
Calgary’s gunslinger brought the Stampeders back up off the mat to win after being down 17-0 to Montreal through one quarter. Not to mention he did it without Jon Cornish and against one of the CFL’s toughest defences.
2) Drew Willy, Bombers
Week 6 stats: 17-25, 269 yards, 2 TD; 5 carries, 72 rushing yards
With Willy’s right knee clearly not 100 per cent he somehow managed to rush for a career-high total on the ground. And, most importantly, he stayed on the field for the entire game – Winnipeg is an entirely different team with No. 5 behind centre.
3) Matt Nichols, Eskimos
Week 6 stats: 27-39, 300 yards, 2 TDs
After leading a touchdown drive on Edmonton’s opening possession, Nichols couldn’t convert some prime TD opportunities. He could’ve had a much bigger outing.
4) Zach Collaros, Ticats
Week 6 stats: 21-27, 229 yards, 3 TDs
By my count, Collaros converted all three of the Ticats’ red zone opportunities into touchdowns. That’s the type of high-level efficiency Kent Austin is looking to get each time out.
5) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 6 stats: 29-40, 326 yards, 1 TD
The numbers look good, but Harris’ inability to convert on three separate third-down plays – two quarterback sneaks – held Toronto back against their hated rivals.
6) Rakeem Cato, Alouettes
Week 6 stats: 20-32, 278 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Cato couldn’t capitalize on a hot start as the Alouettes blew a 17-point lead out in Calgary, but his play-making ability continues to be entertaining.
7) Travis Lulay, Lions
Week 6 stats: 22-33, 255 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT
BC’s starting pivot had a third straight subpar passing outing, especially by Lulay’s standards. It was his third career three-interception game.
8) Brett Smith, Riders
Week 6 stats: 15-22, 132 yards, 2 INTs
Smith was in a tough spot facing the league’s best defence on the road for his first CFL start, but he needs to work from the pocket more and progress through reads instead of bailing early only to run around.
