Quarterback play was up and down in Week 5. Hank and Bo got it off to a fast start. Trevor Harris continues to prove how mentally strong and resilient he can be. Meanwhile, you have to feel for Kevin Glenn who got knocked from the game after putting the Riders into a spot for their first win. And it was a struggle for any Bomber pivot against Edmonton’s attacking defence. Time to get to it and rank the performances on the QB scorecard.
1) Henry Burris, REDBLACKS
Week 5 stats: 28-43, 389 yards, 3 TD
When Good Hank shows up to play he can be among the elite signal callers in the league. It was a much-needed effort from Burris.
2) Trevor Harris, Argos
Week 5 stats: 30-40, 340 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
Toronto is never out of the game as long as Harris is at quarterback. No matter what the score is, the Argos always have a chance – that’s one of the best traits you can find in any quarterback.
3) Zach Collaros, Ticats
Week 5 stats: 19-28, 284 yards, 1 TD
Cutting down the interceptions from Hamilton’s Week 4 loss in Montreal was a must. Collaros stayed patient and took what was open and available in Saskatchewan.
4) Bo Levi Mitchell, Stampeders
Week 5 stats: 23-41, 318 yards, 1 TD
Losing Jon Cornish in-game was tough and Mitchell still was able to give Calgary a chance to win the game in Ottawa. It feels like he’s getting better each week this season.
5) Kevin Glenn, Riders
Week 5 stats: 22-33, 255 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Glenn’s third-quarter interception was a poor decision and unfortunately for the Riders No. 5 was knocked from the game while making the tackle on that play. Once again though, he had Saskatchewan in position for a victory.
6) James Franklin, Eskimos
Week 5 stats: 5-8, 83 yards, 3 TDs
Edmonton’s rookie pivot put the ball in the end zone when he had a chance. That was an issue for the Eskimos to start 2015.
7) Matt Nichols, Eskimos
Week 5 stats: 17-25, 196 yards
Nichols’ inability to capitalize on red zone opportunities likely ultimately led to being pulled from the game in favour of Franklin.
8) Travis Lulay, Lions
Week 5 stats: 18-32, 165 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
It was surprising considering Lulay’s hot start to the season that he looked average in Week 5, especially with the fact that he had a 21-point lead to work with.
9) Drew Willy, Bombers
Week 5 stats: 7-17, 81 yards
Even before getting knocked from the game Willy was having trouble solving Edmonton’s defence.
10) Brian Brohm, Bombers
Week 5 stats: 9-19, 71 yards, 2 INTs
In Brohm’s second extended outing of the season he looked worse than the first.
11) Brett Smith, Riders
Week 5 stats: 2-4, 12 yards; 2 carries, 15 rushing yards, 1 TD
Smith came into the game in a tough spot against a smart defensive coordinator in Orlondo Steinauer and a veteran Ticats unit.
