TORONTO – Sean McEwen has been selected third overall by the Toronto Argonauts, instantly boosting the team’s size on the offensive line.
McEwen, a 6-3, 297-pound, native of Calgary, Alberta, played in 32 games over four seasons with the Dinos. Calgary’s 2011 Rookie of the Year was named a Canada West All-Star in three consecutive seasons (2012-14). He was also named a first-team All-Canadian in 2014 and a second-team All-Canadian in 2013.
Commented Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker, “We understand Sean could be a futures pick but he was the top player on our board. He is athletic, smart and tough, and he loves the game. Getting players who are true centres is not easy as there aren’t many of them available. We are thrilled to get Sean McEwen with the third overall pick.”
The Calgary Dino summed up his reaction to being selected third overall by saying, “Today was the perfect summary of all the hard work we’ve put in over the years.”
McEwen topped all offensive linemen in the bench press (27 reps), 40-yard dash (5.01s) and three-cone drill (7.82) while ranking third amongst his position group in the shuttle drill (4.8s) at the 2015 CFL Combine in March.
