Congratulations Nick Davies – Scotiabank Game Changer

At the Hamilton Tiger-Cats final regular season home game on Saturday, November 8, Nick Davies from Hamilton was named the Ticats 2014 Scotiabank Game Changer. He was recognized on the field during the second quarter of the game for the outstanding work he has done in the community. He was awarded a $25,000 donation for the Neighbour to Neighbour charity courtesy of Scotiabank.

Four years ago, Grade 10 student Nick Davies created the Stuff the Bus food drive, inviting his community to fill a bus with food for Neighbour to Neighbour, Hamilton Mountain’s food bank. The event resulted in 2,900 lbs of food. Expanding the project, he made partnerships with volunteer groups and sponsors so that Stuff the Bus events could happen monthly. Nick also put together The Great Soup Round-Up, a school board-wide fundraiser that asked each student to bring in just one food item. Forty-five schools took part last year, donating over 16,000 food items.

Nick was selected as the 2014 Season Scotiabank Game Changer from a group of eight finalists who had each been named a Home-Game Scotiabank Game Changer earlier in the season and were awarded a $1,000 donation for their designated charity. Nick was selected as the overall season Game Changer based on a combination of fan voting and a judging panel.

Below are the all of the Game Changers Finalists and their designated charity:

• Tim Giblin – Toronto Rehab Centre
• Nick Davies – Neighbour to Neighbour
• Julia Mogus – First Book Canada
• Ethan Golden – The Arthritis Society
• Melissa Thompson – McMaster Children’s Hospital Foundation
• Beth Walsh – Help A Child Smile
• Jenn Morrison – Diamond Blackfan Anemia Canada

Congratulations to all of these community heroes!
