The Canadian Football League announced today that Tiger-Cats defensive tackle Ted Laurent has been named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Canadian.

Laurent played a major role in the Ticats league-leading run defence. In 15 starts, the Montreal native recorded a career-high nine quarterbacks sacks while tallying 24 defensive tackles, two tackles for a loss and one forced fumble en route to being named an East Division All-Star on Wednesday.

The first-year Tiger-Cat was previously honoured as a West Division All-Star and nominated as the Edmonton Eskimos Most Outstanding Canadian in 2012.

The Most Outstanding Player awards, which include six categories, are voted on by 68 voters from the Football Reporters of Canada and head coaches from across the league.

Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL division who through on-field performance excellence, best represent the awards’ titles – Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Canadian Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Most Outstanding Rookie, and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player

The 2014 CFL Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 27 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, B.C. Tickets for the show are available at ticketmaster.ca. Tickets can be upgraded to provide access to the pre-show reception, the Concert Series VIP viewing deck or the CFLPA Official Player’s Party at FIVESIXTY.
