Coming off of the first two-touchdown performance of his career, Tiger-Cats sophomore receiver Luke Tasker has established himself as one of Zach Collaros’ most reliable targets.
In his second season with the team, Luke Tasker has already eclipsed his totals from last year. He has 33 catches, 394 receiving yards and three touchdowns, up from his marks of from 13 grabs for 202 yards and a single score during his rookie campaign in 2013.
“I’m happy with how I’ve done, but I feel there is also plenty of room for myself to improve,” he said.
“It hasn’t just been all success, we’ve had our ups and downs as a team, and for me personally. But yes, as of late I think I’ve started to string some success together,” he said.
“Something I always try to work on for myself is slowing it down a little bit, and still even out there there are times when I get done with the play and I wish that I would have seen something a little bit earlier in the play, in terms of what the defence is doing and where they are lined up. I sometimes wish I could recognize a look even quicker,” he said.
Being the best possible player that he can be is equally a mental exercise as it is a physical one for the versatile offspring of Buffalo Bills’ legend Steve Tasker.
“I think I can get faster with seeing the field and understanding what’s going on with the defensive side of it. You can always run and get better at coming in and out of your breaks so I continue to work on that,” he said.
“In terms of being sure handed with the ball and running some crisp routes, I think I’ve done a good job just producing where ever I been placed. Whether it’s special teams with me holding kicks or lining up outside as a receiver,” he added.
One of the most overlooked duties during a football game is holding the ball on field goals, and the Cornell University product also handles this role for kicker Justin Medlock. He is able to reflect on the methodology behind it.
“Being on special teams is about renewing your mind for that one play. You have to forget being a receiver. You have to forget about everything else but being a holder. You have to just concentrate on the technique,” Tasker said.
