Fans of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have once again set a new Purolator Tackle Hunger® record for food collected at a CFL game as 317,800 pounds were donated at the Inaugural game at Tim Hortons Field on Labour Day.
“The Ticats would like to congratulate our fans, our partners and Nestle Water for their generous contributions,” said Tiger-Cats President and COO Glenn Gibson. “Everyone in TigerTown should be proud of their efforts to set a new Purolator Tackle Hunger record for the second straight year.
“Thanks to Ticats fans and their tremendous support, this year’s Purolator Tackle Hunger Game Day Food Drive raised more than 317,800 pounds, an increase of 44% over last year,” said Patrick Nangle, President and Chief Executive Officer, Purolator. “We are proud to work closely with Hamilton Food Share to help alleviate hunger in Hamilton and surrounding areas.”
Now in its 12th season, the Purolator Tackle Hunger program raises awareness, food and funds for local food banks across Canada. At one game in every Canadian Football League city, Purolator organizes a Game Day Food Drive and encourages fans to drop off non-perishable food items or a cash donation in support of food banks in their communities.
Last year, Purolator Tackle Hunger raised the equivalent of 1.1 million pounds of food. This year, the program has set a goal to help raise more than 1.2 million pounds of food for Canadian food banks.
