Ticats ink four Canadians, including 1st-rounder Beau Landry

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has added four Canadians to the roster, including the eighth overall pick in this year’s CFL Draft, linebacker Beau Landry.

Joining Landry on the Ticats roster are two other members of this year’s draft class, linebacker Christopher Johnson and defensive lineman Martin Pesek, as well as receiver Jahmeek Taylor.

Landry
, a 5-11, 201-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario, was a two-time CIS All-Canadian and two-time OUA first-team all-star during his university career at Western.  In four seasons with the Mustangs, he recorded 130.5 tackles, six quarterback sacks, four interceptions and five forced fumbles.  

Johnson, a 5-10, 220-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, played four seasons at the University of Toronto. The Ticats 44th overall pick in the 2014 CFL Draft registered 33.5 defensive tackles, three quarterback sacks and one interception returned for a touchdown with the Varsity Blues in 2013.

Pesek, a 6-3, 250-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, compiled 42 defensive tackles and 13 quarterback sacks in four seasons at Acadia. The former Axeman was selected by the Ticats in the seventh round (62nd overall) in the 2014 CFL Draft.

Taylor, a 5-9, 170-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, finished his CIS career with 4,761 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns in five seasons at Saint Mary’s. The 2010 AUS Most Outstanding Player and Hec Creighton nominee ranks third in CIS history in career punt return yards with 2,166.

The Tiger-Cats also announced that Wilfrid Laurier quarterback James Fracas will attend this year’s training camp as a non-roster invitee.
