Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach Kent Austin has been named one of three finalists for the 2013 CFL Coach of the Year award.

In his first season with the Tiger-Cats, Austin led the Black and Gold to a 10-8 record and an East Division title.  Under Austin’s guidance, the Ticats became the first team in league history to reach the Grey Cup without a single CFL all-star.

In two seasons as a CFL head coach, Austin has amassed a regular season record of 22-14 with two Grey Cup appearances. He previously won the CFL Coach of the Year award in 2007.

Austin is first Tiger-Cats coach to be nominated since Marcel Bellefeuille in 2009. Greg Marshall, who earned the honour in 2004, is the most recent Ticats coach to win the Annis Stukus trophy.

Calgary Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel and Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin were also nominated.

The Coach of the Year award, which is selected by 58 members of the Football Reporters of Canada, will be presented on February 5, 2014 in Ottawa, Ontario as part of the CFL’s annual Congress.
