The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today the team winners for the 2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards. The Tiger-Cats honourees include:
HENRY BURRIS / Quarterback – Most Outstanding Player
In his 15th CFL season, Burris leads the league with 4,790 passing yards, has completed 356 of his 543 pass attempts and has thrown for 22 touchdowns. His 65.6% completion percentage currently ranks as the top single-season mark in Ticats history. This year, Burris became the fifth quarterback in CFL history to throw for 50,000 career passing yards and the sixth pivot to run for over 5,000 career rushing yards.
BRIAN BULCKE / Defensive Tackle – Most Outstanding Defensive Player & Most Outstanding Canadian
Bulcke has anchored the Tiger-Cats defensive line this season, making 24 defensive tackles, three fumble recoveries and three quarterback sacks while collapsing the pocket on a regular basis.
GREG WOJT / Right Guard and Right Tackle – Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman
In his first year with the Tiger-Cats, Wojt has been a steady presence on the offensive line while demonstrating his versatility by starting at both right guard and right tackle this season.
MARC BESWICK / Linebacker – Most Outstanding Special Teams Player
Beswick enters the final week of the season at the top of the league’s special teams tackles list with 22. The Ticats special teams captain has led the Black and Gold in special teams tackles in each of the last four seasons.
C.J. GABLE / Running Back – Most Outstanding Rookie
Gable has put together a sensational rookie campaign, rushing 130 times for 782 yards – an average of 6.0 yards per carry – while catching 54 passes for 598 yards and adding 12 total touchdowns. His 1380 yards from scrimmage leads all East Division players and ranks fourth in the league.
The players were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and the CFL head coaches.
In this first ballot, FRC representatives from each CFL city plus the respective head coach submitted votes for the six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who through on-field performance excellence, best represent the awards’ title – Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Canadian Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Most Outstanding Rookie, and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
The East and West Division winners for the 2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards will be announced on Thursday, November 7 at noon ET.
The 2013 Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 21 at Conexus Centre in Regina.
