Pre-Game Breakdown: Tiger-Cats vs. Lions

Ticats.ca Staff

The Tiger-Cats will be out for revenge this Saturday as they tangle with the BC Lions in the second half of their back-to-back series.

The Ticats fell just short of victory last weekend, as quarterback Travis Lulay and the Lions handed the Black and Gold a 29–26 loss. It was the first time in four games that Hamilton’s defence allowed 30 points or more, and they’ll be looking to get back to the stingy form which saw them force six turnovers in a two-game sweep of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A win would put the Ticats in a temporary tie for first in the East, and bring them closer to a playoff berth.

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
SECONDARY
  TRAVIS LULAY
B.C. LIONS QUARTERBACK
The Tiger-Cats secondary has come into their own over the last month, limiting the success of their opponent’s passing game.

Last week in B.C., the Tiger-Cats gave up 300+ yards passing for the first time since week 6, but still have one of the league’s best pass defences.

In nine games, the Tiger-Cats have only allowed 263.3 passing yards per game and a completion percentage of 62.9%.

The Tiger-Cats secondary has played their best football at home this season, only allowing visiting quarterbacks to complete 57.5 percent of their attempts.

In four games at Alumni Stadium, the Ticats have allowed an average of 183 yards per game, with only Drew Willy (269 in week 5) surpassing the 200-yard mark.

TELions QB Travis Lulay currently sits third among CFL passers with 2,256 yards and second with 16 touchdown passes.

Last week in B.C., Lulay eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark for the first time in 2013 after going 26-of-36 for 359 yards and three touchdowns.

Although when B.C. has travelled to the East coast, Lulay has tended to struggle.

In two games hosted by East opponents, he has completed 35-of-57 attempts (61.4%) for 432 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Prior to his 359 yards passing performance in Week 10, Lulay last hit the 300-yard mark passing in his last visit to Hamilton, when he was 27-of-34 for 343 yards and two touchdowns.

A TRIBUTE TO OUR ROOTS

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Canadian linebacker and special teams ace Marc Beswick is currently tied for the league lead with 14 special teams tackles. Since the bye week, Beswick has had at least two special teams tackles in three of four games.
