After almost eight long months, the Tiger-Cats return to action when they take on their longtime rivals, the Toronto Argonauts, at the Rogers Centre on Friday night. This will be the first of three meetings between the Black and Gold and the Double Blue this season.
Friday’s game marks the beginning of the Kent Austin era in TigerTown, after the former Argos’ quarterback and offensive coordinator was named Head Coach, General Manager and Vice President of the Tiger-Cats in December of 2012. The last time Austin put on the headset in the CFL was on November 25, 2007, when he led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to the 95th Grey Cup in Toronto.
The restoration of the historic rivalry will also mark the Toronto return of two members of the Argos’ 2012 championship squad: defensive coordinator Orlondo Steinauer, assistant defensive backs coach James Stanley and defensive back Evan McCollough.
Both teams are coming off undefeated pre-season runs, with each team knocking off the Montreal Alouettes and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

PIVOT-AL COMPETITION
Friday’s game will see two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks share the field…
PLAYERS TO WATCH
RB/KR Lindsey Lamar
Lindsey Lamar put himself on the map during the preseason by racking up 435 combined yards in just two games. Lamar showcased his speed as a return man with two punt return touchdowns while displaying his versatility as a running back in offensive coordinator Tommy Condell’s hybrid attack. Lamar will serve as the Ticats lead kickoff returner on Friday.
WR Greg Ellingson
Rookie receiver Greg Ellingson has found his place in the Ticats offence as a reliable target for quarterback Henry Burris. Ellingson, who signed with the Tiger-Cats on May 30 after spending seven games with Arena Football League’s Tampa Bay Storm, had four catches for 129 yards and a touchdown in the pre-season.
LB Jamall Johnson
As one of the Ticats most experienced players on the defensive side of the ball, veteran linebacker Jamall Johnson takes on a new task in 2013, making the transition to middle linebacker. In four seasons in Black and Gold, Johnson has registered a total of 361 defensive tackles and 16 quarterback sacks. The transition will showcase his ability to play between the tackles as well as sideline to sideline.
