TORONTO – The Edmonton Eskimos kicked off the second round by selecting hulking defensive lineman Stefan Charles 10th overall. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound recorded 50 total tackles and 9.5 sacks in 20 games at Regina over three seasons.
Winnipeg then made their second pick of the day, taking defensive back Kristopher Robertson 11th overall. Robertson turned heads at the Combine only two days after earning an invite from the Quebec City Regional. The Concordia defensive back stunned many by earning the best 40-yard dash (4.423) time and the top cone shuttle total (4.370).
Arguably the best receiver in the draft, Seydou Junior Haidara went 12th overall to the BC Lions who is already rich with Canadian pass-catchers. A 6-foot-1, 215-pound receiver, Haidara hauled in 23 passes for 394 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also participated in the 2012 CIS East West Bowl.
Highly-touted defensive end Ben D’Aguilar was the next prospect scooped up by the Calgary Stampeders 13th overall. The Hamilton, Ontario native was named the 2012 recipient of the JP Metras Trophy and was also named both OUA and CIS 1st team CIS All-Star after racking up 28 total tackles, 12.5 quarterback sacks and 1 forced fumble.
The second round finished up with DL Hosam Shahin (Rice) going to the Alouettes 14th overall, DL Brent Urban to the Tiger-Cats 15th overall (Virginia), OL Brett Jones to the Stampeders 16th overall (Regina), defensive back DB Jermaine Gabriel to the Argonauts 17th overall (Bishop’s) and DE Connor Williams (Utah State) to Ottawa 18th overall.
