Young looks to return to the lineup
Marcel Young – who missed two months of the season with a broken hand – appears set to return to the lineup on Friday.
Young has been practicing at the boundary corner spot for the past two days, after playing that position for much of 2011.
Ticats Head Coach George Cortez indicated that Young will likely feature at the corner on Friday, and hoped that his energy would be an asset to the team at this late stage of the season.
“That’s what it’s looking like right now,” said Cortez of the possibility of Young playing against the Alouettes.
“He’s had a good week of practice and he’s got fresh legs.”
“I know a lot of people have been talking about that, but it does matter. There are very few people who have been playing every game that are 100 per cent.”
“The question is whether they can play at their top level when they’re not 100 per cent, and that’s always the question for players when you get to this time of year.”
Cobourne and Walker could both see the field on Friday
Cortez addressed the recurring topic of Avon Cobourne and Chevon Walker’s coexistence again on Wednesday.
The coach suggested that a final decision on whether the two would both be included on the game day roster would wait until the day’s practice film had been fully combed through.
Were they both to dress, how the two would be used would depend largely on how Friday’s game evolved.
“We’ll see how they came through practice today,” said Cortez of his running backs.
“If they’re both on, they’ll both play. How much they would play at the same time would be up for debate.”
“Sometimes you do what you feel is best for the game. While you would like to do some things, if it doesn’t match up with how the other team plays defence, it doesn’t do any good to do.”
Cortez on Chris Williams: “I expected him to have a very good year”
Cortez was asked on Wednesday whether he had expected the sort of landmark season that Chris Williams is currently enjoying before it began.
The Ticat coach remarked that the evidence of a year ago led him to expect good things of his sophomore receiver, but that it would be impossible to predict the sort of record-breaking pace he’s set thus far in 2012.
“I expected him to have a very good year,” said Cortez of Williams.
“I don’t know if you ever think that someone is going to run back five punts for touchdowns. That would be an unrealistic expectation.”
“But I expected him to play very well based on what I had seen from last year.”
