Trash Talk – Tiger-Cats vs. Eskimos

“We’re still the leading team in scoring in this league, but we’ve got to do it more consistently. We’d probably be scoring even more points if we did it that way. But we’re our own worst enemies. We know what other teams are going to do, what they’re going to throw at us. But the bottom line for us is that we’ve just got to make sure that we finish drives off.”

“I think I should be on the field regardless, not only just for my play, but for the leadership I bring as well.”

“This is the playoffs for us. This is how you look at it now — we have to win. I was on an Edmonton team (in 2010) that was 2-9, and we kept grinding and kept going, and ended 7-11 and one game out of the playoffs. And this team is better than that team.”

-Ticats Defensive end Greg Peach on the urgency needed in today’s game against Edmonton. The Toronto Sun

“I could say it’s just another game, but I have never done this before, played against the team I played with,” Peach said. “I have a lot of friends on that team and I’m very excited to play them.”

“This is the one place where it has to start. If we can’t win at home, then we don’t deserve to go to the playoffs. If we want to make amends and even this thing up record-wise – it’s not too late – then this is the time to make it happen.”

– Henry Burris believes its time to make a push and get out of the 5 game slump the Ticats are in. Ticats.ca

“I’m embarrassed because I think we do have some good players on defence and how can you call yourself a good player on defence when you’re (giving) up numbers like that? You start to question yourself. . . Are you that good? Are you not that good? It’s frustration at first, but now it is anger. Guys are angry and guys get testy and we’re not letting the little things go anymore. If you mess up, guys on the field are going to let you know you messed up . . . And I think it’s a good thing. There’s no more mistakes. We’ve got to find a way to help this team win football games.”

“When you drive you car, what do you spend the most time looking through? The windshield. You don’t spend time looking in the rear view mirror. You do that, you’ll end up driving over kids, into people’s front yards. That’s no way to drive and that’s no way to play football.”

– Ticats Offensive Lineman Peter Dyakowski explainins the attitude needed in football. The Scratching Post

“I’m really getting mad and we need to play with a pissed off attitude. The last few weeks, people have getting player-of-the-week on us and I’m fed up with it. I hope they try and run the ball, we’re ready for it. Tell them ‘run at me.’ I’m getting angry just thinking about it.”

-Defensive Lineman Jermaine McElveen on his unit’s frustration over the past few weeks. The Scratching Post

“We know that they’re going to come out roaring and doing whatever they have to do to get back into the win column, because now Calgary’s ahead of them out west. We’re expecting a team coming in here full of piss and vinegar.”

It’ll be my first pro game at any level. It’s exciting. I’m welcoming any opportunity.”

-Recently-acquired Eskimo punter Brody McKnight on the prospect of playing this afternoon. Edmonton Journal

“Any time you put someone on who doesn’t have experience, who really hasn’t done anything in terms of kicking in this league — (given) the angles, the width of the field, (and) the 12th man — there are concerns,”

-Edmonton Head Coach Kavis Reed on the challenge facing McKnight in seeing his first action in the CFL. Canadian Press

“Given the gravity of this game, we want to make certain that we have the smoothness we need in the run game. We feel very strongly that Jerome (Messam) and Hugh (Charles) can get it done. Obviously, if Cory (Boyd) were a part of it, he could get it done, but in terms of roster considerations and special teams considerations it’s smarter for us to go with just those two guys.”

-Reed on the decision to scratch running back Cory Boyd from the lineup for this afternoon’s contest. Edmonton Sun

“Right, wrong or indifferent, we’ve made him analogous to Whitaker in Montreal. Very versatile guys that have similar skill sets. It’s not an indictment of our receiving corps that (Charles is) one of our leading receivers. It’s a testament to his versatility.”

“I played at Ivor Wynne since I was in high school. So I’m used to playing there. I usually have a lot of family and friends at those games, so I try to show up.”
