Ticats All-Time Team: Receivers

Voting for the Tiger-Cats All-Time Team presented by AM 900 CHML continues, this week fans must determine the greatest Ticats receivers in history.  With so many outstanding receivers suiting up in black and gold since 1950, fans will have to make some tough choices.  Make your vote count at AllTimeTeam.Ticats.ca.

The 16 nominees include:

Tony Champion
Champion played 85 games for the Tiger-Cats over eight seasons.  His 1656 receiving yards in 1989 are a single-season team record which still stands to this day.  Over his career in Black and Gold he was named an East Division All-Star twice and a CFL All-Star once.

Tommy Joe Coffey
One of the most recognizable names in Ticats history, Coffey torched defenders for Hamilton from 1967-72, playing in 84 games.  He was nominated as the team’s Most Outstanding Player four times, and was the finalist for the East Division twice.  Coffey was named a CFL All-Star three times during his career in Hamilton.

Paul Dekker
Dekker played 90 games over seven seasons with the Tiger-Cats and was named an East Division All-Star four times over that span.  A member of the Black and Gold during one of it’s most prosperous era’s, Dekker played in five Grey Cup games during his career, winning once.

Rocky DiPietro
One of the most popular Canadian players ever to don a Ticats unifrom, DiPietro played over 200 games during his 14-year career in Steeltown.  His 9761 receiving yards are the second-most in team history and he holds the record for career receptions with 706.

Terry Evanshen
Terry Evanshen played four seasons in Hamilton, from 1974-77, appearing in 56 games.  Evanshen is tied with two other players for the team record for single-game receiving touchdowns with four and is second all-time for his 13 touchdown season in 1975.

Darren Flutie
After arriving along with Danny McManus in 1998, Flutie quickly became a household name in Hamilton.  In five seasons, Flutie racked up 5796 yards and 26 touchdowns.  His 98 receptions in 1998 are still a franchise record, and was the first of two CFL All-Star selections for Flutie while with the Black and Gold.

Tony Gabriel

Gabriel played 58 games over four seasons with Hamilton and was named an East Division All-Star three times and nominated as the team’s Most Outstanding Canadian three times.  In 1974 Gabriel was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian.

Tommy Grant
One of the greatest players in Tiger-Cats history, Grant led the Ticats offence in an era of dominance for the Black and Gold.  Grant stands in second place all-time in career receiving touchdowns with 51 and third all-time in receiving yards with 6542.  Grant played in an incredible nine Grey Cup finals, winning four times.

Andrew Grigg
Andrew Grigg played 127 games over eight seasons in Hamilton.  Twice during that time he was named an East Division All-Star and he was nominated as the team’s Most Outstanding Canadian once.

Garney Henley
Also nominated as a defensive back, Henley played in an era where going both ways was the norm.  In addition to his storied career as defensive back, Henley caught 243 passes and 42 touchdowns as a receiver.  He was named a CFL and East Division All-Star once as a receiver, and was nominated six times as the team’s Most Outstanding Player.

Mike Morreale
Morreale played 144 games for the Tiger-Cats over two seperate stints in Hamilton, racking up 402 receptions and 5179 yards.  He was nominated twice as the team’s Most Outstanding Canadian and won the award in 1998.

Hal Patterson
Patterson was a five-time East Division All-Star and three-time CFL All-Star over his seven seasons in Hamilton.  During his time in Black and Gold he played in six Grey Cup finals, winning three times.

Steve Stapler
Stapler played 99 games over seven seasons with the Tiger-Cats from 1981-1988.  His 1516 receiving yards in 1987 are second all-time in team history for single-season receiving yards.

Earl Winfield
When discussing the greatest receivers in Ticats history, Winfield’s name is a constant.  The leader in career receiving yards with 10119, Winfield also holds the title for career receiving touchdowns with 75.  He was named an East Division All-Star four times and nominated as the team’s Most Outstanding Player five times,

Keith Baker
Baker played four seasons with the Tiger-Cats from 1981-84.  He racked up 3763 receiving yards over than span and caught 31 touchdowns.

Archie Amerson
Amerson played 122 games with the Tiger-Cats over eight seasons, playing all but one game in his CFL career with the Black and Gold.  Amerson was the team’s Most Outstanding Rookie nominee in 1997 after he caught 40 passes in his first year.
