Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Henry Burris has been named the Canadian Football League’s Offensive Player of the Month while receiver/returner Chris Williams has been recognized as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Month after spectacular performances to begin the 2012 season.
Burris and Williams have played key roles in the Ticats three-game winning streak, which currently has the Black and Gold perched atop the East Division standings.
Burris has completed 122 of 175 pass attempts (69.7%) for 1,540 yards and a league-leading 15 touchdowns through five weeks. He has also carried the ball 16 times for 131 rushing yards.
Williams is averaging 15.6 yards per punt return, 118 yards per missed field goal return and has returned three kicks for touchdowns – one return touchdown shy of the Ticats single-season record.
This season, Williams is also among the CFL’s leading receivers with 30 receptions for 387 yards and three receiving majors. His six total touchdowns are tied for the league lead.
Last week, Williams partnered with Fox 40 International Inc. to create the ‘Play to the Whistle’ community initiative. For each touchdown Williams scores for the remainder of the 2012 season, Fox 40, the Ticats and Williams will team up to donate $1,000 to Liberty for Youth and City Kidz.
