Yesterday, we asked our fans on Facebook to provide questions for Ticats linebacker Jamall Johnson. Today, JJ took the time to answer some of your queries…
When did you start doing the “guitar shredding” after a big play? (From Josh B.)
In BC, when I played for the Lions. I was in training camp battling with (offensive lineman) Rob Murphy. He liked the heavy metal he was like one of those rock star guys, so our defense was kicking butt one day and I just felt like playing the guitar. I’ve done it ever since.
Have you taken a stronger leadership role this season to help the D? (From Mario D.)
Yeah, the last couple of years I’ve had to, being a veteran who’s played here for the last few years. I embrace it. The team gets along and respects each other… it’s a role I embrace and enjoy.
What is your gameday routine? (From George M.)
I wake up in the morning and cook some good breakfast. I usually have a good bath before and just try and stay focused. I listen to some good gospel music and just rest up and get ready for the game.
If you could be anything besides a pro athlete, what would you be? (From Elvira C)
I love food. I might own a restaurant, become a world class chef appear on the Food network. That would be fun. I also have a degree in business administration so something along those lines.
When did you start playing football? (From Jon S.)
I started playing football when I was around eight years old.
Favourite place for a road trip? (From Troy D.)
BC is always fun because I played there for four years before coming here. I like going back there especially with the changes they’ve made to BC Place. I have to say Saskatchewan though. The Riders fans kind of remind me of our Ticats fans, who are the best fans in the league. I just like silencing that crowd.
Why do you wear the #28? (From Jayden R.)
I’m not a big numbers guy. I had a lot of nubers growing up I did have the number eight my first year of college. I couldn’t wear it when I first got here because Cory Grant had it, and I couldn’t afford to buy it from him (laughs). When I asked my brother, he liked 28 because it’s his birth date. So, I guess in a way its honoring my brother.
If you had $1,000,000 what would you do with it? (From Cody S.)
I would invest it and give it to charity. Nowadays, that isn’t going to go too far. I would want to try and help people out and invest it to help out my family as well.
